They didn’t have to be great for three weeks, they had to be great for eight months. And the gap in funding and perceived player quality between them and the premier league “Big 6” was greater than the perceived talent delta between the US Hockey team and the Russians. It remains, in my opinion, an unparalleled sporting achievement.
