What are your thoughts : 'Loss and Theft: Should you lock your watch?'

 By: PoyFR : January 24th, 2022-06:36
Below a link to an article about Watchlock. I find the concept interesting but I am wondering if it would not make matters worst. What do you think ? System Watchlock® EUROPA STAR - Should you lock your watch ? System Watchlock® EUROPA STAR - Should you...

I'm afraid....

that, as you point out, this would be more likely to make things worse than help.... Just my feeling of course. Thanks for the information! Cheers, Filip

+1 my feeling too

They will just try to rip off your arm.

 By: grigo : January 24th, 2022-07:21
There is risk of serious injury with something like this. Smart idea, but robbers won’t understand the concept and will turn more agressive.

I must agree with grigo They will cut your hand off for sure. One thing thieves know is what is valuable and how to get rid of it for the proper price. Better off, not wearing in certain places , wearing a long sleeved shirt, or leave it home altogether.

In the United States....

we happen to be uniquely fortune to be blessed with the ability to weild these if a situation so requires .... (Image copyright Kimber USA) ...

Just as likely as you have gun, just as likely the thief will have gun.

In my country nobody really has guns apart from police, not that it is difficult to get a license but since it is a safe country most do not feel like there is a reason to have a gun license. I certainly would not want to get into gun fight over a watch.

I witnessed....

first-hand a man slicing open another man's throat on the street in a 'good' neighborhood in LA. The injured man bled to death on the street. Point being, knives are just as lethal-dangerous when used skillfully. In a self-defense scenario I'd always pref...

Of course.

Generally speaking, that's what insurance is for. The point here was, if your life was threatened by robbers, you might not have a choice in the matter.... Always wanted to see Prague, never heard anything but words of praise, and would be especially fitt...

America

 By: Jakub M : January 24th, 2022-19:21
That is true, but due to recent economic developments you have high rate of unemployment which in turn make people more likely to turn to crime, some countries have safety nets, some do not.

In L.A. and California at large....

The economic and political situation has gotten to a boiling point, there has never historically been more violent crime all over the state, but especially in dense urban areas. This includes some of the most famous-fashionable neighborhoods that are glob...

I too carry a concealed weapon, but it is to defend my life and that of my family, not my watch.

Exactly.

 By: InHavenPro : January 24th, 2022-18:46
That's what insurance is for. The question here was aimed at this device which basically locks the watch to your arm, meaning the criminal would have to inflict serious bodily harm to steal the watch. In such instance only active self-defense would suffic...

I find it utterly

Terrifying/appalling Really not my cup of tea! I prefer on the other hand to wear the easily recognizable watches on a strap, to make them more low key

Hehe ;-)

Presumably you also wear a sign on your forehead

 By: robsallnow : January 24th, 2022-08:47
saying 'My watch is protected by Watchlock' so would be thieves don't waste their time approaching you for your watch

Whats the point, the weakness of a watch is the pin that attach the bracelet or strap with the case imo

When they pull the watch of your wrist that will brake first

Agreed with drawbacks mentioned by others (Risks to chop your arms or break into your house instead); what about registery of stolen watches?

 By: Jp75 : January 24th, 2022-11:09
The idea reminded me of some strategic discussions regarding ‘securing the cars, especially SUVs’ against being stolen on the streets: One question was ‘if the cars are so secure that they cannot be stolen, wouldn’t the risk move towards stealing them wit...

About Global registry of stolen watches, no one wants it...

Understand that at highest level the brands are in the business of selling new watches. I wonder however if that might change over time and consider looking at their products with a lifetime perspective (of course with ultimate objective to support the sa...

Does anyone recall this scene in Die Hard?

 By: HighEndOne : January 24th, 2022-18:37
Hans Gruber is dangling from the Damsel's wrist, with his H&K P7M13 ready to fire. The Hero unlatches the Rolex Oyster clasp and saves the day. Also, as I recall, neckties are usually verboten on many factory floors for the same reason. I'll pass on t...
