Does the ubiquity of a watch increase or decrease the desirability to you?

Just spent the last few days in wonderful Dubai - and of course spent time looking at other people\'s wrists. Just my observation - clearly there is a lot of stainless sports Rolex and Patek Nautilus all around (I saw four new model SS Daytonas lots of Gr...

It always makes me happy when I see someone with good taste in watches.

Always a good way to start a conversation. The ubiquity ( I had to look that word up) doesn’t seem to have any influence really. Maybe when it goes to a certain point like you experienced but I think not. We all look for something unique that appeals to u...

I Guess as Long as it pulls the heartstrings I think one can appreciate things regardless of the surroundings. Cheers! Peter

I think I am more pleased

When there is a real appreciation to what is collected. Beyond the brand and the name I really like it when someone can speak to the history and innovation of Rolex as well as Patek - it made me a believer of Rolex at one point - but then we all meet folk...

The more it gets recognised by people the less interesting it is.

The mass simply doesn’t know what’s great. If I see someone has something hyped I always question him and need to take a deeper look in his collection.

I politely disagree!

Jay said it well, sometimes a watch is classic and then who cares who else has it? I have a watch that became hyped and I love it the same as if no one had it.

A million or more Subs does not decrease my appreciation of a Sub.

It’s an enduring design which looks just as good today as the first time I saw one. I care not if every other guy in my office wears one too. Similarly for the Nautilus. It took me a long time in my watch journey to appreciate both the Nautilus and the RO...

I politely agree!

I think there are many watches that are just "tool" watches and important that they function well and hold up.....mostly Rolex sport models fit this bill. As far as collection...well then I assume that something more "rare" is more interesting....like a v...

It's been a common occurrence in my watch-loving life to start to appreciate a watch I hadn't much thought about because I see someone wearing it in real life. Seeing it out and about on an actual person's wrist living their life frequently helps me recog...

I have been interested in the Nautilus before prices went crazy and everyone had or wanted one. At the time, it's been a watch, that I wanted to buy at one Point in the Future. I Just wasn't Sure which model of the Nautilus range i wanted. With the curren...

I speak to many that buy a timepiece because it’s popular not because of their love for a brand or a particular model. They don’t understand 1% of what makes what they are buying special nor do they completely appreciate what they are wearing. We can’t ch...

This question doesn't come up where I live.

Even though where I live in a major US metropolitan area, I hardly ever see other people wearing the sorts of watches we see on this site. Sometimes a colleague might say, "that's a nice watch," and I'll patiently explain what it is and why I like it. But...
