Is it possible Rolex bought it....?
At least then we would all have a chance to see it. If it went to a private collector then it will be put in a safe never to be seen again...until the next auction and that would be sad.

I echo the comments if the buyer knew what he was doing. This craziness suggests a bubble about to burst.
Happy that some of $15M will go to help a charity
but makes no sense outside of being a watch worn by Paul Newman. And he reportedly wore other watches too throughout his life. But the Italian collectors and dealers who popularized the "Paul Newman" moniker are popping champagne bottles tonight.

Its the name sake for a legend, without Paul the Daytona would probably be dust. It deserved to go for more and I think 15mil is a great deal for such a historic piece

A big part of billionaires (big millionaires) fortunes come from financial markets... which are a big bubble today.
If it bursts one day (it will sooner or later), the number of millionnaires/billionaires will mechanically decrease even if their number is well correlated with the number of world citizens which is increasing toi of course But I’m ok with your reasoning....
