In Sweden a non EU citizen recive VAT refund if a brand new watch has been bought on airside at the airport before leaving the country. The refund is not marginal I would say, some +20%. This is the reason why a lot of non EU visitors are to be found at watch stores doing deals that they find attractive.

Just to note, there will be no refund of VAT for second-hand items, which watches sold by an auction house generally are.
VAT refund (or buying tax free) only applies to articles that are bought new.
