I've always thought when pronounced correctly it's hard to tell whether you're saying it with an 's' or a 'z'.

Comparable to the correct why to pronounce Porsche. The uninformed say 'Porsh' and those who think they're saying it correctly say 'Por-sha', but if actually pronounced correctly you almost don't hear the 'a' at the end unless you're really listening for it.

And when I was in Dresden a few years ago a dealer trying to sell me a Sinn used a "z' sound. So I'm with Martin.
