I’m sure the brands CAN design these watches, but I would think the market for such watches is limited.

There is a reason they are not producing these watches, I don’t know what that reason is but my feeling is it is not because they can’t imagine it!
I agree with you that we, the forums, should be the first point of discussion or the natural collaborator with the brands and indeed we/they were. There were early Purists collaborations, there were numerous Paneristi collaborations, IWC forum watches and many more. But my guess is Hodinkee, and the broader profile it brings, is a better marketing decision than a collaboration with one of the forum which would reach a far far smaller audience.
The marketing value of these collaborations must be pretty valuable. That has to be the primary motivation.
(Someone else needs to provide some input as to why we here on this forum cannot be more active in terms of collaboration. There was an effort with Tudor 12-18 months ago but it never got off the ground, I don’t know the details of why. And there were others, successfully launched, before that.)
