I‘m not wearing yellow and rose gold much mostly because of my personal taste, less because of attention/security

I feel like iconic watch designs like AP RO, RM and some Rolex gather more attention, than different types of gold. I also see a lot of people wearing red and yellow gold watches on the street, but these are 99% of the time fashion watches with a coating, not real golden watches. I would therefore not feel unsafe in most areas wearing a red or yellow gold watch with a more understated design. I‘d only feel unsafe wearing a combination of iconic design and red or yellow gold, e.g. a rg royal oak. However, if I travel into another country I don‘t know well, I also don‘t wear red and yellow gold and in general less expensive or at least very understated watches. In some cases I didn‘t wear any watch at all while traveling.

Yellow/Red gold watches invite unwanted attention?

 By: Robert65 : July 22nd, 2020-08:54
Been reading on this forum that (in general), forum members tend to avoid wearing yellow/red/pink/rose gold watches in public spaces. Not necessarily referring to street crime or robbery. But, do members feel more self conscious in public spaces with thei...

Other that security concerns it boils down to how it wears on you.

It is like wearing a suit. Some people just look uncomfortable in a suit usually ill fitting or badly worn. I would say the same about how you carry yourself with a gold watch. If it feels like a steel watch you will find it to be subtle. If it wears like...

J and R are related to Patek codes for Yellow and Rose Gold. That being said, I would say it is a personal taste. I prefer white metal for chromatic reasons. With a few exceptions, though.

Fine and small watches, thin, too. Examples? Geophysic ( Vintage ), Lange 1815 Moon Phase Emil Lange, for example. Best, Nicolas

I believe certain steel sport models will garner more attention than lesser known gold examples just my perspective but then again my only J watch is a very thin and discrete one

I wear my watches under long sleeves so they're rarely visible.

If I'm in a polo shirt I wear something that won't attract attention.

This is the way to do it I think

Then just roll back your sleeves when you're in a setting where you're comfortable showing it

People notice, even if you don't notice that they notice.

What you do with that information depends on the context of you and the one noticing.

I generally always prefer to avoid attracting unnecessary attention and let people build their own narratives accordingly

Whether in the office, in the street or with friends. Which is why, I am always wearing my steal sports watches. And wear J/R in specific occasions with the right audience, that wouldn’t even blink an eye, Or might actually appreciate.

Alas, one has to be somewhat aware of surroundings in more and more cities/countries today, but I think we should also make an effort not to let this prevent us from enjoying our watches.

So I try to limit myself to taking only "reasonable" (whatever that means in a given city or situation) precautions, otherwise in the long run we either end up not wearing our nicest timepieces, or not enjoying them when we do. But I can obviously agree o...

Agreed that a simple steel Rolex may be much more risky to wear than a Minute Repeater from JLC or a Freak...

 By: amanico : July 22nd, 2020-10:19
I remember once, some years ago, one of a client of mine's police guard saw my Master Minute Repeater on my wrist and told me: " Wow, what a superb Swatch you have! Where did you get it? " I answered him that it was a fake I found during my holidays and a...

Lol...Nice Swatch 👍🏻👏🏻

I didn’t realize the brand name when I handled that... Did you open your one side of your long coat and show your friend rows of these watches if he wants to buy ?

My now sold blue 39mm Rolex OP got some uncomfortable attention once.

A few years ago I was out for a walk with a woman I was dating. We made it to a spot where you need to take a narrow path in order to reach a small sandy beach area. There was a family already enjoying the scenery and while we were heading along the water...

All opinions. You'll get some from all camps. Really puzzled by the aim of this post...

You're going to get answers in all the possible camps. Some will feel conscious about wearing an obviously precious watch, others won't. If you're trying to obtain a statistical distribution, consider the respondents. Respondents aren't likely to admit th...

I can fully understand why people are afraid to wear y/r gold watches .

Unfortunately i have had a bad experience while wearing a rose gold watch so i will not wear any (flashy) gold watches in public anymore .

This is an interesting topic/question.

Over the years, I had all metal color watches, and slowly I gravitated to steel timepieces, because I try to live a worry free life. The precious metal pieces always got me worried of scratches on the the time I believed that a gold/platinum watch doesn’...

I remember many years ago (c.2004) in the London tube

 By: VinnieD : July 23rd, 2020-09:47
I noticed a guy wearing a Patek 5065 way before it became the fashion item it is today. He noticed me seeing his watch and acknowledging his good taste from afar. It was just a subtle wink wink. Usually, I am not too comfortable in the tube nowadays

Recently, in Amsterdam, someone

got shot and killed over a Rolex. In the press it was called an "expensive watch". I guess it was, it cost a life. Later, police said it was a fake. I don't worry at all about wearing red gold but I would not feel comfy wearing yellow gold, not because I'...
