and no, I was always firmly 'planted' on the enthusiast side of things, not just as it relates to watches, but any product in general.... My chain of thought is precisely how you hypothetically delineate in your post, and I'll never have more than 7-8 hig... 

I can’t afford to be a collector. But friend and family know me as a collector. I look in the mirror and no answer comes back. An existential question which I cannot figure out, or will try to anymore.

To me it has never been about the hoarding, but about gaining a deeper knowledge of horology, mainly within my favorite brands. Right now I'm pretty focused on my two biggest mechanical love affairs: Omega and JLC. I strive to always learn more about them... 

Favorites are forever. In my case there are watches, cheap and very expensive that do me nothing. There are watches that the matter the price, i will go to get them. Lucky me i am not a Patek Philippe freak, so that a dream not can come tru. Easier with L... 

I'm not a Patek guy either, and luckily my favorite brands are not the super expensive ones.

Going from collector to enthusiast. I keep a very small collection of 4 watches, 3 of which have been gifted to me, and 2 of which I have selected. I only have one watch that I bought myself, and I will likely sell it soon. Trimming down my footprint if y... 

When you get too carried away with collecting and set too strict of a rule you don't end up enjoying the journey as much As I'm still a young collector, with just a few years of experience, I'm only now starting to realize how this is the best way to go, ... 

I confirm you are an enthusiast. Simple by the way you show here IWC’s. This brand is famous by movements and collectors are focussing on status brands. The more their watches increase in value, the more they collect. I have my thoughts they can not enjoy... 

Tastes evolve. Simply buy and wear what you love. The rest takes care of itself.

I only have three of those.

I will most likely never collect watches that seem redundant or similar.

For some things, like fountain pens, I literally have two of the exact same model in the same body size, same color, same nib size. The only difference being the serial number. Am I nuts? According to your post, I'm crazy!

I think the same thing about pens and watches and sneakers! I've got a lot of identical sneakers. There's one I consider my "uniform" sneaker.

Instead of acquiring more than one iteration of the same watch but for finishing, I’d prefer to find the better (to me) iteration and let the other go. However, I don’t consider all Explorers to be the same watch, so I’d gladly have a “vertical” with a 10...
