I am becoming a pour over master.

Apr 09, 2020,12:02 PM

Been working from home for 3 weeks now.  Every morning I get up and go to the "office"

for the day.  I make a pour over coffee a couple of times during the day.  Just an
opinion but I think that may be the best way to enjoy coffee.  Fresh ground beans,
fresh cold water brought up to temp and just the right ratio of coffee to water.
One of the best parts is no leftover grounds in the bottom of my cup.
I let it drip into my insulated thermos from my favorite coffee shop in Colorado
and it stays hot and fresh for well over 60 minutes.

I'm less sophisticated with coffee, but one good consequence of this virus is that I moved my Nespresso machine (my favorite coffee) from the office to home, where we had a different one...

Glad that I realize to do this the very last time I was allowed into my office...now chances are the machine will stay in the house for good. ;-) ...

I don't drink coffee...

But I'm told by others I make great coffee!

We'll take your word for it.

...

I can't even verify it myself!

Since I don't drink it. But I do notice that I see some coffee grinds in the bottom of the cup. I would imagine that to be quite unpleasant. Your mentioning of "no leftover grounds" in the bottom of the cup makes me want to be more careful in that regard!...

I've also been trying to master the pour over!

Fun playing with all the variables to get that perfect cup. Although I am not picky at all.

Lots of YouTube videos on the topic.

Some good, some not so good. It's quite easy to master and enjoyable to do. I use a 16:1 ratio. 25 grams of coffee to 400 grams of water. That gets me approx. 16 oz of finished product. We are trying to conserve as much as possible here so I have cut back...

Hahaha, me too!

During the lockdown I've gone back to pour over from French press. Still my favorite way to do cup of coffee. For me it's been more about getting the grind and filter combo. I ditched the metal filters and moved to a Blue bottle single cup pour over and f...

Medium? No numbers on my grinder unfortunately

So a little finer than usual for most french press and a little coarser than usual for pour over. I'm going to try to go a little finer now that I ditched the metal filter though.... ...

Exactly! Same ratios but when I make coffee for 2 I'm getting better

flavor than a single cup. I think I'm going to go to a finer grind for single cups to slow the water flow a bit. The big filter also flows way better than the little folded ones so I think it can handle a finer grind. WFH problems 😅

Quick update: went too fine

Went a few clicks finer and the coffee was terrible. No flavor. Crazy. Same coffee to water ratios, just a grind change. Have gone back to my original grind and will try a courser grind tomorrow...

It's become my favorite, too

The flavors are so much clearer and cleaner!

I’m relatively new to coffee.

Still prefer strongly a milk drink, Cortado or Cappuccino. From time to time a manual brew as I experiment. But always at a coffee shop. With the lockdown I’ve been thinking of trying to do something at home but haven’t made that jump yet.
