Of the two I would have to pick the DJ, simply based on lifestyle, water resistance is a must for my watches, you could even go recreation diving with the DJ if you wanted to. The DJ could be the last watch you ever need to buy.

I would probably have said the JLC. No easy answer. Now my answer is Rolex but perhaps with a more plain dial+bezel.

Rolexes have a industrial, machine built vibe to them. My understanding is that virtually nothing is done by hand anymore. The JLC might have a little more of the human touch.
