Hamilton Khaki Field 38 mm

I bought my son this Hamilton Khaki as his first watch.  Forgive the picture.  Anyway, I'm going to say that this is a very nice watch, esp. as a first.  The movement is well known and with an 80 hour reserve, who can complain.  I didn't go with the manual because I figured my son would forget to wind it and then soon enough it'd be in a dresser drawer, forgotten.  But the automatic is easy, and he wears it every day: so money well spent.  the finish on the case is quite acceptable and the dial is very attractive in my view.  Frankly, the aesthetics are quite practical and with the date it does everything a watch should do.  It has a display back: not convinced that it's necessary for a movement with this level of finishing, but maybe it's fun to see that it's there, ticking away.  The 38mm was perfect for his wrist: glad to be able to have some smaller sizes available.  Overall, I'm very favorably impressed with the quality of the watch, esp. when considering -- dare I say it? -- the price.  Money well spent.  And the strap is not bad either.  In fact, I was so impressed that I got a Pan Europe for myself, but I'll save that for a different post!

He is a lucky boy with a great father. I am sure this will be the start of his horological journey. Enjoy your Sunday.

Seed planted.

We hear stories about first watches. Many, many years pass, then boom! For various reasons that first watch blossoms into renewed interest and appreciation of their original gift. Looking forward to your post, plus future posts from your son. -John
