Patek 6119G vs. Laurent Ferrier galet square vs. Vacheron American

 By: afaleh : July 27th, 2021-17:35
I have been debating getting a fromal dress watch for a while, but always tend to be side tracked and I end up getting something sportier as that fits my lifestyle and tastes, now that the collection has grown I really do think its time to anchor the whol...

You could

consider golden ellipse, saxonia thin or reverso to widen your choices. 2 handers are more dress watch like

Go with what moves you. The Vacheron is the only watch here for you.

The Patek is nothing, the LF merely interesting and filling a niche. The Vacheron has some real attraction for you and that's why it keeps popping up. That's the one for you here. If you'd like a different watch by one of the other two brands, find one th...

You don't like any of them enough clearly!

 By: patrick_y : July 27th, 2021-19:17
When I try on a watch, it's like "BAM, THAT's the ONE!!!" If you don't get that feeling, I'd pass! Seems like you're not getting that feeling here.

It would be a "Gimme" for me - The hobnail bezel Patek :-)

 By: MikiJ : July 27th, 2021-19:47
Small seconds plus an exhibition caseback - Done deal! A small piece if Patek Trivia: One of their master watchmakers made their bezel press many decades ago and it still produces these beautiful bezels.

I think these are entirely different & hard to compare...

if you prefer to stand out in a crowd...VC 1921 American is the way to go, it will be unique today & 50 years from now. I'm not a big fan of this new Calatrava, while 5196P is something I'll always consider extremely dressy. LF is the best micro-rotor...

Hi Afaleh, let me join some of the previous friends in noting you might (admittedly) lack the necessary enthusiasm to purchase any of these pieces...with the possible exception of the Vacheron.

 By: FabR : July 27th, 2021-22:00
Sorry to be blunt, but a Patek which "does not move me emotionally" should *never* be purchased in my view... Pateks have to move us emotionally -- that's one of their primary functions! Even though I don't collect LF or VC, I would apply a similar emotio...

Thank you all for your feedback

Perhaps I have not been clear, my thinking is that I should mature as a collector and explore the world of proper dress watches, which have not attracted me historically. With that in mind, the three candidates have the most potential for me to to connect...

I would second that

third!

Forth!

 By: Jerxeer : July 29th, 2021-04:11
Go forth!

For me, the LF!

 By: jleno : July 27th, 2021-23:18
The movement is a significant step above in finishing compared to the Patek and VC. Dial side, it also seems a bit more modern and refined compared to the others. It's really tough to beat LF for a good looking modern dress watch.

Good thoughts

Thanks for making the choice harder

You may want to consider the 1921 in white gold...

 By: Badgolfer : July 27th, 2021-23:48
I just received mine and I love it! The white gold model is significantly less expensive than platinum. For me, it fits the in-between space of classic dress watch and the current sports models. The strap on this piece tones down the dressiness as well. I...

LF without a doubt from the 3 choices available.

The micro-rotor on the square is just so awesome. I will even wear it reverse to showcase the movement if I ever get one. ; )

It would be between the LF and Vacheron

 By: sham1 : July 28th, 2021-00:21
Dial wise, the Vacheron is beautiful with the Breguet hands and numerals. Movement wise, the LF has the best finishing and is arguably the best micro rotor automatic watch in the market. For me, the dial and case are more important than the movement becau...

Very good points

 By: afaleh : July 28th, 2021-11:29
Makes the choice that much harder! Haha

The Patek is the safe choice but I cannot help to be disappointed by the movement. It simply does not look like 30k level finishing.

 By: ChetBaker : July 28th, 2021-07:07
I like the Cal 4400 in the VC better, but it is also available in many significantly less-expensive models diminishing somewhat its cachet. In this instance I would lean towards the Ferrier, blue dial.

here you go…

Best, Mahesh., ...

Looks gorgeous

 By: afaleh : July 28th, 2021-11:09
Thanks for the picture! Are you happy with ownership? Would you trade for the other two mentioned?

no i wouldn't trade...it is a great timepiece

 By: mahesh : July 28th, 2021-11:36
LF in steel with micro-rotor is ahead both PP & VC, as movement & as refinement in my view... even if you request an enamel dial with micro-rotor, it will be still better.

Thanks for the info

Exactly

 By: afaleh : July 28th, 2021-11:13
We are paying 30% extra just for the Patek name, that’s from the source. Patek earned the right to do that, to be at the peak, even if one percent more than second best, takes effort and restraint, and the extra coin we pay is the reward. The movement is ...

My choice obviously was with the Patek.

 By: jlux : July 28th, 2021-12:16
It was THE Calatrava that I have been waiting for. Honestly I cannot understand the repeated comments about the movement: it is gorgeous and technically more modern than the others. That being said, the other two watches are equally gorgeous and in the end...

The decision was made

 By: afaleh : July 29th, 2021-02:05
And I am now awaiting the delivery of my Vacheron American. At the end of the day it was the one that got me the most excited, I don’t feel like I left anything behind with the LF, and as nice as the Patek is with that gorgeous Hobnail the uniqueness of t...

Congratulations!!

Great choice and one which will clearly standout from the rest. Enjoy and share some wrist shots!!! Peter

My thoughts from a purely aesthetic point of view

 By: Rosneathian : July 29th, 2021-03:39
It's nice to have three such different watches to choose from. This makes for interesting reflections. The Calatrava had become dated in the last 5-10 years, but this update is excellent. I particularly like the double clous de paris bezel. The rail track...

Patek is classic, very nice, a true Patek... yet...

 By: Mostel : July 30th, 2021-07:12
a bit of a stuffy snoozer. LF is IMO, overrated... Of the 3, only the VC has je ne sais quoi... some mystery... and originality... a real choice. Now for value... perhaps the Patek... but then again... not so much with these type models... LF... neither v...
