Watch Suggestion needed :-)

 By: CL : July 31st, 2010-15:44
Hi all, as usual I'm very tempted to keep my collection to very minimum and focus selection. I would like to see which 2 additional pieces will you choose to add on to my current 2 keepers. My current keepers are Dufour Simplicity and Rolex Milgauss (grea...

Well CL...

 By: moc : July 31st, 2010-21:45
where to start....you currently own,and list a number of watches that possibly have no connection or a common line whatsoever....soo different. Many struggle to create a theme for their collection, many others (me included )just buy what they like without ...

You are referring to Lange PLM or RL PLM?

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-01:20
Just want to be sure Everyone has their quirks in this passion, mine happen to be tight editing...hehe I like the idea of having a very varied collection so that each of them serves a 'function' but then again overall it still bear the identity / personal...

I meant RL PLM...

 By: moc : August 1st, 2010-03:01
you meant the first Tourbillon PLM?In that case I still would opt for the RL... Mo

If the RL PLM .....

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-03:29
is the first PLM and it is the size of the original PLM, it will be a very very clear winner *CL

Headscratcher.

 By: amanico : July 31st, 2010-22:23
Not that I think you need any opinion to get a fine watch, CL, and among those in your list, I'd say, by far, the Lange PLM: Such an understated watch, housing some technical refinements, and with a milky enamel dial. All is discretion, subtility, in this...

Oh YES....I love the skeleton MR from VC

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-01:27
Especially the RG version. I have handled it once and I was mesmerized. It's by far the best sounding MR I have listened though I have only tried a few. But I think that's a really hard piece to come by and also very very expensive too, if I'm not wrong. ...

You're looking for a reason...

 By: pplater : July 31st, 2010-23:11
... to go with the Laurent, CL. Don't fight it - go with it! If it works, you're a winner; if it doesn't... well, you know the address! Cheers, pplater.

hahaha....I miss the Laurent dinner

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-01:29
so I did not get the chance to try it on my wrist....sigh. The deterring factor is the size but we all know one can't tell until it is strapped on the wrist. It is very yummy *CL

Well well...

 By: MattS : August 1st, 2010-01:37
Hi, I am trying to understand where you want to go, here is my understanding (I am not a psychatrist!...) but we all go through the same thought processes trying to justify or bring some pragmatism or some reason to a passion!... So my interpretation is y...

Well...I'm not sure exclusive is the right word,

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-03:19
but I did have tried and owned most of the watches I mention above at one point of time or another. Most of the watches I mentioned are quite 'common', not exactly that rare or hard to get. In the early phase of this hobby, I tried numerous watches so tha...

Covering the bases ...

 By: AndrewD : August 1st, 2010-02:28
Hi John, Because you are keeping the collection very tight these days you need a watch that is going to fulfill a distinct purpose. You have the ultimate black tie / dress watch in the Simplicity and a great beater in the Milgauss, so I would think you ne...

avant garde or progressive piece seems like the

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-03:27
correct next choice. I love the 202, especially the Altin version. What bothers me is as a keeper, this watch sure does not really fits in. I just can't see how this watch can grow old with grace. Maybe now I'm more interested to get back my first Urwerk,...

what a selection

 By: donizetti : August 1st, 2010-04:03
if it were me I would pick the Resonance and the Richard Lange PLM. The Resonance because I find the concept so intriguing and the execution masterful. Of all the watches I own and have tried this is by far the one I love the most. This is not my favorite...

I love the old resonance becos

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-05:11
i's the beginning and the dial and sub dial are both sparkling and shiny, it dances with light It has the antiquated look that speaks of old Paris charm. As for the RL PLM, I feel that it is over shadowed by the original PLM. Original PLM is before my tim...

I tried it but I must say

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-14:55
it looks better on photo than real life. It somewhat look abit 'cheap' in metal. *CL

Thanks for that assessment. I now am not as disturbed...

 By: Ronald Held : August 2nd, 2010-04:43
that i will not own one.

H1

 By: Douglas : August 1st, 2010-10:34
Smile.

I can't wait to see yours :-)

 By: CL : August 1st, 2010-14:56
Maybe the week after *CL

RM 2

 By: Hororgasm : August 1st, 2010-15:23
fit smaller wrists...sporting genre, which could add a different dimension in addition to your dufour n milgaus, and milestone piece for the brand

yah....actually I'm thinking of 2 more watches

 By: CL : August 2nd, 2010-02:52
but everyone since to suggest only one. I think that could be an indcation of extreme editing...hahhahaha I do love the simplicity of RM002 and it does belong to 'my time ' Lovesss*CL

RM

 By: Douglas : August 2nd, 2010-04:40
I have always found the 002 and the 012 fascinating watches (as well as the so-called alusic), but the remainder seem to me more marketing than horology. Size of the 002 would 'fit' you well. Cannot imagine what other RM pieces you would think about.

RM002 and RM009....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:23
yum yum yum. My heart feels stronger for the RM009 Totally RM. *CL

May I ask the Milgauss you have is vintage or modern?

 By: TdotBean : August 1st, 2010-23:24
Also what color is dial? Tyler

Modern and black dial...love

 By: CL : August 2nd, 2010-02:50
the vintage but not sure if that can be a beater plus it's not 'my' time *CL

Ok Thanks in that case ...

 By: TdotBean : August 2nd, 2010-09:53
My suggestion would be the PP 5131G to fit in your 'my time' requirement and it is as exclusive as the Simplicity. Playing on a contrasting theme here Time only vs Complication. Simple vs. Sophisticated. The 2nd watch will be something of avant garde inde...

I will have serious issue with 5131G....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:16
it is another over hyped patek piece. I will be very embarrassed wearing it. Not being snobbish, I just dont like such image. Thank you for your suggestion. *CL

You know what?

 By: amanico : August 3rd, 2010-06:17
You know it. Same for me, CL... what a pity... Best, Nicolas

Since you said that

 By: TdotBean : August 3rd, 2010-09:11
How about the 5130P. What do you think about the 103T? Tyler

5130P is so so...the earlier

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-09:38
version is way nicer. As for 103T, only version that makes sense and look good is the Black one. The rest on them will have a weird black band on the top of the sapphire crystal, which is rather distracting. I must say 103 is very nice.....if only they ha...

Hi John, hope you are well. If it were my choices...

 By: 219 : August 2nd, 2010-07:22
I would probably go for the H1 plus either the Lange or Laurent. I have not seen the Laurent, and hence, cannot comment with full facts. There is also an independent I know of who will soon release a watch that really will interest you. Will let you know ...

You teaser :p.....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:17
Please let me know when you can I look forward seeing you again, heard you might be visiting NYC? If so, please let me know. *CL

5101P

 By: KIH : August 2nd, 2010-07:45
I would love 3970EP, tho But seriously, I wouldn't keep non-round watches, so several of your choices would be gone. I have been trying to keep my collection to minimum, too, but.... Ken

One day you will....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:20
As minimum as possible, it's so zen Ken, if you have a chance to hear the Credor Grande Sonnerie in Tokyo, please let me know how it sounds. Maybe some pictures of that and the other simpler piece (forget the name but the one with enamel dial) Thank you. ...

out of these three...

 By: schen : August 2nd, 2010-11:28
Hi John, I tried to narrow down to 2 from your list of 10, but got stuck here and can’t go further. 1. Laurent: great watchmaking in realization, in the same spirit with Simplicity w.r.t. design approach and execution, in spite of the breathtaking tourbil...

Hmmmmm.........you really keep me thinking....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:41
If I listen to what you suggest, it kinda does make sense. 1) Milgauss- Daily Rolex beater , good for all condition and it's movement is magnetic protected. 2) Simplicity- Simplest watch which simply suggest time passage in the most honest way and the ver...

Maybe something simple in stainless, like this

 By: cazalea : August 2nd, 2010-14:09
A nice blue to catch your eye now and then, and no worries about the Simplicity (banging it on things) No date to set if you just wear it occasionally Any old strap will fit...

CL, are you no longer considering...........

 By: Topcat30093 : August 2nd, 2010-22:01
The new piece that is due to be designed & made from the joint venture by Sir George Daniels and Roger Smith?

too expensive and it doesn't make much sense to me....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:44
I would rather get a Series 2 or the earlier Millenium. It is afterall a watch make by Roger but with Daniels name on the dial. If that's the case, Millenium to me has a much interesting story. *CL

I have had this before.....

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-06:22
Lovely and wonderful It's very 'similar' to Simplicity and so in the end I chose Simplicity. Being a keeper, I'm not afraid of it being banged I can truly wear the watch like a watch......yay. *CL

PP5970G or my number 1 pick, the Laurent Ferrier.

 By: boa2 : August 3rd, 2010-07:28
Few watches leave me speechless. Best of luck in your enjoyable search!

I should have mentioned...

 By: boa2 : August 3rd, 2010-07:34
I've had the Laurent Ferrier on my wrist, in RG, WG & YG. They all spoke to me, but I just couldn't find any words with which to respond. Speechless.

I truly need to try the Laurent piece

 By: CL : August 3rd, 2010-09:32
on my wrist and soon Thank you for your advise. *CL

Your list made my brain shut down because...

 By: peregrino : August 3rd, 2010-13:13
of a massive overload!!! All are truly majestic in their own way. My personal favorite is the Lange! The brand of my dreams, love the classic, centerseconds RL! I might be completely wrong now, braking the rules by not choosing from the list, and instead ...

Keepers for our time ...

 By: AndrewD : August 3rd, 2010-15:29
Hi John, Is it possible to define the qualities that make both the Simplicity and Milgauss "keepers"? If you could, it may be feasible to apply the same criteria to the other categories of watches in your list. Or perhaps different categories of watches r...

First love, perhaps?

 By: AndrewD : August 4th, 2010-15:27
That's interesting, John. Of course the danger is that we move on from the watches that first attracted us because we have seen and learned more and understand their place in horology, which may not have been apparent early on. However, if there are watch...

I used to love the Resonance more than the Remontoir Tourbillon.....then somehow I switch my love to Remontoir Tourbillon and now back to finding the early Resonance more special I guess I will be happy with either one, but just one. *CL
