Don’t mean to sound morbid,but

My exit / final watch, will be the last watch I am able to purchase before I’m gone from this life. As long as I live and breathe I will enjoy the passion and the hunt. What is a life without passion worth anyway ?

Lots of times!

But no thanks to the wonderful watches constantly being brought out, this is becoming near impossible for anyone genuinely passionate about watches!

Not possible.

There might be a watch that you own that you settle into when you decide you've given up the whole watch pursuit. But it won't be *because* of that watch. There is no such thing as a watch so good that it destroys your desire for watches. There is no holy...

A bit of a cryptic title. I have a kind of an end to collect watches. Albeit i want to keep on collecting . My core collection is complete. The quantity is not my main goal. I want watches that satisfy me. I know that a new watch push up dopamine, so the ...

Lol, but we keep searching !

I own a few that are so close. But they are all very different from each other...

Which makes me think 1 is not quite possible.

Yikes, tough to say.

Answered another way, my black Freak is the one I would never sell. But it is not a be all end all type of piece.

That's also true! ;-))

Like all humor, funny because it’s true !

Hell, here's what I dream of...

I struggle with this every day. Just when I think I’m comfortable with my collection then a new piece comes out which changes my whole Mindframe.

Eventually the thing that we chase the most “time“ Will eventually put it into our collection.

Eventually, the thing we will probably chase most is time itself.

At least we will be well covered in terms of recording it on a nice watch

Whichever one it might be for me

I have not found yet.

I have two kids and two dogs....

The only thing I want one of is my wife.

The only way this is possible is when the collecting desire drops to a level that you're not really into watches...

 By: Clueless_Collector : September 28th, 2021-21:20
not that watches are no good but it's when your priorities shifted. This might be triggered after getting a certain watch to complete a collection phase or milestone, but it is not the "watch" itself. I do like the above answer by Ted-Lo "any of Ed's watc...

No single watch can suit all occasions even in a single day, unless you are in the hospital in traction

in which case they will take your watch away, anyway. Ed, the answer is NO. A few years ago I asked a friend, a passionate clock collector, if 40 cuckoo clocks in one living room was too many. She said, Mike, the answer is NO.

I don’t think there is one for me anyway. No single watch, no matter how desirable, could ever make me want to stop experiencing the passion for other ones, old or new…

I’ve come to peace with the fact that the hunt for the next watch will always be a part of this passion for me! Of course I do aspire to have a stable collection I enjoy and feel passionate about, but I don’t think it could ever be finite! 😉😉😉 ...

When you don't "search"...

 By: penfriend : September 28th, 2021-21:59
you will not ask yourself this question. I at least don't search for watches (or even a final watch). I look at timepieces that I see at ADs or in windows or on trade fairs and ask myself whether they appeal to me. And the more watches I own the less appe...

Indeed! ;)

Thanks for asking that thought provoking question Ed. I am always pondering over that.

Not Possible

Wasn't a problem until I stumble into the Internet watch sites in the 90s. Downward spiral since, more than 40 watches bought and sold, still keeping 16 or thereabouts. Otherwise it would have been a datejust for sure. 8-)

It’s a nice thought ;-)

If you're talking about a killer "watch to end all watches"...

then I have to swim against the tide and say that I am not in the market. I definately will purchase another (more) watch(es), something fun. and at the moment I am looking at something that strikes my fancy. It's not a "killer", it's more like a great re...

For me there are practical limitations.

I can’t justify buying a watch if there are few or no opportunities to wear it. There are a number of watches I have considered buying but “when would I have an opportunity to wear it” enters into the equation, especially when I already own a watch for th...

I don’t believe so.

In part because I don’t think my tastes of today are the same as five years ago and those of ten years ago were different still. It’s an evolution. I see watches today that ten years ago I would never have been drawn to, so it’s not even an issue of the n...

I've been thinking about this every time I bought a new watch.

But the pursuit, and the sensation of unboxing, wearing it for the first days, just makes me want more. I think the only situation that can make me stop is when I no longer can afford this hobby.

The diversity in horology is significant

 By: NickO : September 30th, 2021-02:02
So whatever one watch you choose, the universe of what-it-is-not is really large. So you’d need to be comfortable never owning a timepiece in that universe. For most of us with a genuine love of horology, that’s a difficult proposition indeed.

I agree on the universe of watches. But what about YOUR universe? There are watches you will never consider owning because they are not just your taste. You ( we ) have some expectations...

... Which restrict our possible / desired targets. Do we really find a watch, these days, which fill all our criterions? Don't we become more and more... Picky? Good to see you back, my dear friend. Best, Nico

usually in terms of an "exit watch". Does one really exist. I don't know anyone here that could honestly say that there is a watch he or she could get that would then make the person stop looking. And if you keep looking you will find something else you c...

The first would be a bespoke Richard Mille with a live baby bird in its case, and a 6 foot long peacock feather coming out of the strap in each direction. I want people to see my watch; and see it from all directions. The other is pretty tame, just a leop...

I don’t know if one watch could kill my desire to ever own another watch…

 By: pejp : October 7th, 2021-16:25
…but if any watch could do it, it’d be the Patek 5970. It’s been my most consistent ‘grail’ (even though the concept of a ‘grail’ doesn’t make much sense).
