Congrats on your 10k milestone Mike.

To reach 10k here may not be easy versus even 500k posts (has Nicolas reached that or exceeded 😬)

You will have to remain loyal and not sway to other forums or sites
Best wishes

Ruminations: Ten Thousand Posts

 By: cazalea : October 2nd, 2019-13:42
How could I NOT think about my 10,000th post, and prepare an appropriate response? Unlike some people on this site (and you know who you are!), I have not yet gotten wordy enough to write 10,000 per year (or per month). I seem to write fewer, longer posts...

Wow! Congratulations!

can we have an update on your shirt collection ?

Same as before but for one

 By: cazalea : October 2nd, 2019-14:55
I was at a party in August and when we opened a vintage bottle of champagne it sprayed me and a couple other people. Notice a plethora of Hawaiian attire? My friend Ray loaned me a clean dry shirt. When we went into his closet, I saw two 6-foot rows of Ha...

Congratulations, Mike!

Your contributions are always great, and your knowledge, erudition, imaginative photography and proper grammar are always worth a read 😀 Congratulations on your 10,000th post and here’s to many more 🥂 PS: my Blancpain 7002 salutes yours from DownUnder ...

Cool - these are quite rare and desirable nowadays, I think

 By: cazalea : October 3rd, 2019-11:01
What were you doing in London, Mr DownUnder?

Well, I was invited to become a Freeman if the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers (London Livery Company establish in 1631).

 By: Bounce781 : October 3rd, 2019-11:50
It is a fun story which will be told soon. 😀 Currently typing this with tired fingers at Heathrow about to head home. 😀 But I’be been Freed now (apparently) 👍🏻

Ah, you and TJ both, eh?

 By: cazalea : October 3rd, 2019-12:08
Congratulations. Did it involve kilts, songs, and lots of toasts? ...

Yes. TJ and I were representing the colonies 😜

 By: Bounce781 : October 3rd, 2019-12:16
I wasn’t wearing a kilt but can’t recall what TJ was rocking. He did spend a lot of the evening sitting down, so maybe it was a “kilt with a wardrobe malfunction” situation. 😜 Was nice to finally meet Tom and an interesting evening all round. Let’s just s...

Sorry forgot to say.

 By: Bounce781 : October 3rd, 2019-12:19
Oh, yes! Quite a few toasts. “The Queen”, Princes Phillip, members of the Royal Family, Major Of the City Of London (not to be confused with Mayor of London); the Guilds and Companies Of London, to the Luxembourg Navy...😀 Quite a few toasts 😀

Congrats and thanks Mike!

 By: MichaelC : October 2nd, 2019-15:14
That Blancpain looks great.

I like it a lot

 By: cazalea : October 2nd, 2019-15:18
especially the hands and numerals ...

Well done Mike! A worthy contribution!

I feel hungry and thirsty, (but dont want to get too close to the 3-day Alex Sepkus event) 😃 Mike

Keep them coming...I’ll share bread with you 🤤

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 2nd, 2019-16:35
Congrats on this major milestone... No one ever celebrates my x000 posts, I must be unpopular here and pissed off people with my direct and jokes, lololol..

We are terrified by your voracious appetite(s)

 By: cazalea : October 2nd, 2019-16:51
Actually when looking at all that fine food, who can bother to glance at the counter by your name? Seriously, I think 1000, 5000, 10,000 are the ones that we notice. Or maybe 200,000 in the case of Nicolas How's the Northwest -- still cold and record-brea...

You’re too kind...and humorous Mike, haha.

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 2nd, 2019-17:02
PNW is great 👍🏻, it’ll be like California in 20 years, just “watch” the wineries coming up north. You might want to think about “Time to move”...wait, Swatch’s not watching here right? Cheers

I already moved from California to Bellevue, back in 1967

 By: cazalea : October 2nd, 2019-17:17
Sadly I had to wait until I became "of legal age" in 1969 to move myself back down... but all the rest of the family is up there because they can't afford California real estate. Cazalea

Congratulations.

I’ll never understand why they discontinued the great Leman line.

Me neither - I had a few of them pass through my hands

My interest in Seiko and Grand Seiko has grown because of you

I just did a survey - I have over 6000 photos of Seikos on my hard drive :-(

 By: cazalea : October 3rd, 2019-11:16
apparently I am a Seiko-holic and it's contagious. Even Shinji Hattori said said he wished they had more customer/collectors, when he saw my inventory list... Cheers, Mike

Congrats on a legit 10k posts mark

I got my car out and let it warm up a bit (unnecessary, I know, but I always forget something and have to run back to the house) Old school - it has a real metal key. I put on my Piloti driving shoes just for fun, and grabbed an IWC watch and hat It's a l...

i was impressed by your dedication to the passion over this long horizon - i personally have hard time keeping 1 focused passion after a few years :-( equally i liked the side view drawing of the watch that you've done - as an engineer i'm in love with it...

I have a limited attention span too but when it comes to my "core" interests it's longer

 By: cazalea : October 3rd, 2019-11:00
Our friends say my attention span is about 5-6 years but with watches it's been longer Looking back I can see: collecting Mr Bibendum 5-6 and it's over collecting car models 10 and it's over collecting cuff links is over collecting copper implements & ves...

thank you for sharing your thoughts, experiences and knowledge for the benefit of all here. I’ve always enjoyed reading your posts and viewing your lovely photos. Cheers 🥂

My favorite online memory of you is when you were puzzled by . . .

. . . a vanity license plate on a '60s Mustang that read R SALLY . I remember thinking, "Could this guy have not listened to KHJ radio back in the day?"

Not much surprises me anymore, Mike, but being oblivious to radio . . .

. . . when you were growing up in So Cal at the height of rock 'n roll: unfathomable! You really should see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood , if only to glimpse Tarentino's brilliance in capturing a visual perspective of LA in the late '60s. He even had sce...

I am jealous of that beautiful lakeside retreat you enjoy. There is nothing like a midwestern lakeside summer evening... Of course nothing like walking through Detroit on a winter morning either, with the wind ripping off the lake ... Cheers, Mike

Salman, thank you for your thoughts

Making the trade of Seiko and Grand Seiko and wearing out our welcome talking for hours at the airport coffee shop. BTW, I still have the original Seiko box which I found, lost then found again — if you want it let me know. Cheers, Mike

Indeed it was!

 By: rnaden : October 5th, 2019-20:58
We need to do that again...and if it involves more Grand Seiko's all the better ;-) The Seiko is a representation of friendship to me and will be treasured. We'll work out the box logistics at some point when I do make it over again, my friend.
