Congrats on this nice IWC, but I have a serious question

What is the appeal of buying a co-branded Hodinkee piece? Not trying to be glib, just want to understand the rationale because people do seem willing to pay a premium for co-branding with a watch blog/advertising website.

Here it is: the IWC Hodinkee Edition which I got for my upcoming birthday A bit controversial for the use of the "older" movement and for the price..but the material is just fantastic and the watch totally understated and simple. The purists here might re...

Not always the co-branding.

I suspect on this occasion it might be the design and use of material that is attractive to a collector. Of course, some of us, myself included, would rather an original Mark XI for around the same money. Perhaps if IWC were to issue a pilots' watch today...

I agree w Budge that the appeal of this piece specifically stands independent of co-branding.

The flat-tipped hands, no "automatic" on the dial, no date, are very nice, and the case material is actually the kind of thing that I can see would make a difference in day-to-day wear. I didn't buy one, but I certainly see the appeal. Seeing the success ...

+1 [nt]

thank you ! actually I got it a month before but you wishes are very welcome :)

I really thought the material was the big special offering here. Also they removed the automatic from the dial (and the rest of the writing) that is really a bit too much

Agree fully with the Baruch and Brandon1

I would ask the same question as you in regards to have the Tiffany label on the dial. I would much prefer an identical watch without the Tiffany branding.

I think that is different because..

 By: christianch : February 12th, 2019-01:30
is the same identical watch with an extra line of the dial. That I don't understand. I also prefer my nautilus without any co branding..but in this case it is a different model and the dial is really pristine

That's what I was trying to say👍

Enjoy your fantastic new watch.

great question!!

 By: christianch : February 12th, 2019-01:27
I think that all the Hodinkee edition that I bought had something different than the original offering. In most cases there was not really a premium e.g. the Zenith, Hermes or Omega. In this case I also think the price is not really a premium: the new cer...

Happy Birthday!

You got the nicest watch those guys have. I love the watch, but those guys except for their Seiko guy are real poseurs. Congratulations on your birthday watch once again; it’s a lovely piece.

thank you Mark!

I actually met them in real life in Basel and all seemed really genuinely nice, down to earth people. Of course they run a business, but nothing wrong with watch is really quiet simple, no frills but perhaps hat makes it interesting!

For me personally

the best looking pilot watch ever! Congratulations! I am not quite into pilot watches but was swayed by this one. Unfortunately they are all sold out!

thank you Sham!!

I think is really nice ! very simple but works with a suit too

Happy Birthday and cool watch!

I think they did a great job with this one. Nice size, interesting case material, clean dial, correct hands. Enjoy!

thank you Overwound :) [nt]

just kidding haha thank you

ahh right I understand

 By: christianch : February 12th, 2019-01:33
is not for everyone but I think it fits the field watch theme

You know I'm a fan :-)

The Ceratanium by itself is winner for me. Add in the minimalist design details and true Mark 11 design elements and it's one of IWC's best pilot watches to date. Btw, I abhor those erroneous B-Uhr hands and Luftwaffe triangle + dots they use for the rest...

yes I do :) thank you for the clarification.:I am not expert of historically accuracy

 By: christianch : February 14th, 2019-01:00
but this is very interesting!

but cool :)

I don't like "real" aged watched sorry.

I've liked most of the Hodinkee watches and I like this one too. Congrats.

The cobranding is a non issue, not a factor in any purchase decision for me whether it be Hodinkee or anyone else. Their watches have each offered something which a subset of collectors have desired, they were never appealing to the masses (like IWC neede...

great way to put it Jay!

I think is a new way to sell watches. Frankly the direct way made by Omega for example -- with huge waits between order and delivery -- are not as nice as ordering today and get it tomorrow so Hodinkee does a good job on this.

I like this version a lot and congatulate you with its cool design. So many have called for a no-date Pilot and it seems IWC only makes those for collaborations and not in the regular line

up such as with the new Spitfires. As i really like a date myself i will see the Spitfire first.

Ironically I also like dates..

 By: christianch : February 14th, 2019-01:03
but heh I like this watch also without I guess !

congratulations Christian...

 By: mahesh : February 12th, 2019-04:54
the dial is pure & what any of us would like - 'with a date' ! i don't think we should worry about the movement etc with this dial wear in the best of your health. Best, mahesh.,

thank you Mahesh of course the movement is a consideration so I

 By: christianch : February 14th, 2019-01:04
understand these that complained about the price/movement issue. This said I believe it was impossible for IWC to deliver the new caliber on this model or perhaps they didn't want to. Either way the innovative material is what adds to the price in my opin...

I like it, I think it looks really nice, congrats!

Maybe a Ti case would have looked nice too. Thanks for sharing. Vte

Congrats....and enjoy it

on your B-day and the years to come. I don't know if you have noticed, but in certain low light conditions, the Arabic numerals tend to change to a similar color (orange/ faux patina) as the hands and quarter hour markers. I tried to capture it with a pic...

thanks a lot I didn't notice it at all !! how do you like the watch?
