Congrats on the happy occassion -

I don’t know when the wedding is scheduled but the new tissot telemeter 1938 chronograph looks in my opinion pretty decent (specifically the black dial version).
Haven’t tried and looks to be released in Sept.

A newby with est delivery in dec is dumoreau.

By chance I was also looking at the early models of chronoswiss on pre-owned market.
Kairos, chronometer and maybe, maybe even a regulateur.

Maybe early zenith el primero’s or a Kurono Tokyo (salmon dial/ bullseye)
Just throwing some random stuff out there …

Rest the others that were mentioned…

Good luck with the search!

Kind regards,
Sc16

Classy Wedding Watch Recommendations...

 By: mdg : August 22nd, 2022-04:23
...The title says it all. My son is getting married in October and just today (!) asked my opinion about watches up to $2k for his wedding. My wife and me had planned to buy him a nice watch for his 30th next year, but this accelerates things a bit. he is...

SEIKO

Thank you. My very first thought...but what line?

 By: mdg : August 22nd, 2022-04:42
...something with a strap... Anyone else?

I agree

I second Seiko as well

If you are considering purchasing for him as a gift then perhaps a classic Rolex Datejust.

It’s a bit over $2k, but what a fitting gift watch for such a special occasion, and one he will cherish forever.

I like the Datejust idea a lot.

What other watch will survive in style as long as the marriage?

Honestly, as a first and lasting watch (especially if from my parents), a Datejust is the one.

I’d bet a DJ was a first for many of us e.g. first job watch that we buy ourselves, or a graduation gift, etc. Now, unless you know that for whatever reason he won’t care/value it to the extent I’m romanticizing about, then there are many other great look...

We had been planning to buy him something next year...

...with a $10-15k budget. He does not like Rolex even though Datejust was the first thing I was going to suggest to him...

It’s funny, because I was thinking there is a good chance he may not give a hoot about Rolex…

or any of these other fancy shmancy brands.😄 Indeed, I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me he objects to putting this amount of money into something like watches, especially given his new responsibilities and priorities. And of course I wouldn’t disagree...

Congrats on the happy occassion -

If the budget is 2k

IMO There's no better brand for the money than Nomos.

+1 on Nomos

However, at 2k it would have to be manual-winding, which could be an issue for someone who may not care whether a watch is mechanical. (If one haggled, maybe a Tangomat can be had at a decent discount that would meet the budget. If not, perhaps Seiko Pres...

+1

I agree.. they have a wide range to choose from and the watches are relatively value for money

Vintage '50s/'60s Omega Constellation or Genéve. Easily done < $2K . . .

. . . with strap, service, and Ω buckle.

Grand Seiko 9F quartz

 By: quattro98 : August 22nd, 2022-15:59
This offers top tier dial and case finishing and a practical movement without expensive future service needs. There are models that start at US $2200 retail on a bracelet.

Nomos Club 36.

Thanks all...some really good ones...

 By: mdg : August 22nd, 2022-18:20
...I totally forgot about Nomos...they seem to be a good value if you can find the right reference. Am cutting and pasting links for my son and will see what he likes so we can narrow it down. Stay tuned : )

A Longines sector dial would be my advice

 By: renerod : August 23rd, 2022-01:34
It is a very nice watch, so classy and will look terrific with his attire! Congratulations in advance to your son! Credits: the web Best regards. René P.S.: Other nice choice would be a second hand Seamaster 300 (the bond watch). If it is good enough for ...

Agreed on the Longines!

My vote for best execution in that price range.

If you go vintage

 By: EinPa : August 25th, 2022-00:19
You might find a Pole Router in that range

+1 for the Longines black sector dial

especially on the bracelet!
