Haven't seen LF's WT for Hodinkee yet posted. Any love? Opinions?

photo, Hodinkee Not working for a commission, here! But my first reactions are positive. (And there's still one—of ten made—left to purchase….) Too colorful? (A possible negative.) Let's hear your impressions. FH ...

It looks fantastic. LF generally does not so much for me, but this one is nice.

Also, isn't this more of a GMT, not a WT???

I wanted to like it for its functionality

But I cannot get over that hours cutout or that it's not a useful caller's dual time watch.

I don’t understand the map

I get the colorful bit but I seem to be stuck on why the North Pole is missing. And the asymmetrical openings and non-matching font sizes on either side don’t work for me. Nope, sorry, not interested. Cazalea

In my personal opinion it feels to much like “we want to do something ala Patek”! I don’t see charm. I see charm in the Patek.

That’s a bit judgmental of me, since I never saw the real piece. But now that you asked about it. The apertures are not so nice and the font isn’t great either.

I like this....

but not enough to purchase one. LF watches are desired for their excellent movement and quality finishing. As for the dial, it is colourful but still very nicely done. I would have skip the month and date - keeping the watch as a simple two hands. /W72

Not so much

I can not get over the dial cut out and white wheel background

Dial colors a bit too jarring.

Probably looks better on the wrist but blue, orange and green aren't harmonious for me. The colors in the photo may not be true.

I have looked at this watch

Before in another limited edition of 10, there is one on a well know resellers site for about $30K less. I hear everyone’s complaints about the white openings in the LF cloisonné dial but it may be nit picking. The LF dial is quite well done and covers th...

Many thanks for weighing in, Jim! Ah, yes, the market. There's that for sure. I don't know… In Hodinkee's photos the watch, face-on, and in close-up, looks good to

me. Curiously, though, on the wrist (and who takes greater care with such poses than H.?) the watch stands out too much for me. I think the white discs are part of the practical pedigree of the piece, and tell the viewer immediately what he/she wishes to ...

FH, I agree this LF stands out

But I am a person that likes something to say “look at me” on occasion. For instance I have the De Bethune Steel Wheels that is grade 5 highly politicized titanium, talk about standing out, it is really bright but I pull it off and lit is one of a few wat...

Thanks Fred for sharing this. For some reason I’m also not convinced, though by experience I know that ‘rare handcrafts’ can be much more impressive in person than they are in the pictures..

Another point probably worth noting on top of what other friends have mentioned: 10 pieces is a *huge* number for a company that makes less than 200 watches a year...I don’t quite see the point of announcing a limited edition that makes up more than 5% of...

Well, if any of our members knows rare handcrafts, Fab, it is you. A good point, and one not immediately "available" to me—would have had to do some digging to

come up with such figures. But, hey… Here's one I think you'll like. It has been a "grail" ever since I saw it somewhere else on the web a number of years ago. Now find it was for sale on this forum. Having looked at this watch 10,000x I now realize part ...

Hi Fred, let me say I'm no expert in Chopard rare handcrafts, and I haven't seen this piece in the metal. However, the general quality of the brand is excellent...

...so I have no doubt they select enamel artists consistently with their high standards. And at least from the picture, this does look like a fascinating piece of art to put on your wrist! As a dress watch to wear at a dinner or event, it's simply superio...

Helpful, and as warm a reaction as I would have expected from you, dear man. I really should have provided more detail, and undoubtedly the price I quoted

will make more sense once you understand that the dial is Urushi lacquer, and not enamel. Still and all… what an artist! Yamada Heiando's business card states: "Artistic lacquerware and industrial art works by appointment to the imperial household." OK! I...

Thank for the information on the technique on the dial...

...so I've been looking around our own Chopard site, as I remembered some posts by Gordon on Urushi (he owns one of these beautiful Chopard). In fact, here's a couple of earlier threads with some really detailed information on this technique, along with a...

Dear Fab, great thanks for taking the time to unearth these previous posts for me. The detailed exposition on the technique, itself, is fascinating. Though I

In looking on Chrono24 I find 5-6 similar Chopard’s with fine handcrafting in the same price range, defiantly very nice and unique pieces at a great price point. My question is about levels of fine art? I read in the descriptions that the Chopard watches ...
