Regulator come from the time when the observatory was the keeper of “official time”

The hours was of secondary importance - a layer seconds and minute hand made it easier to adjust time settings - hence the “regulator clock” was the precision clock used to keep the reference time. The regulator clock was also mandatory in the watchmaker ...

I don't like when an AD puts its signature on the dial. Case back, ok, but I don't want to be forced to see its signature each time I see the dial. [nt]

When I can't keep looking at my watch, but need to know the passage of time - meetings, lecturing etc - a discreet glance at a regulateur is really helpful. I've used one for decades. [nt]
