A rude and inappropriate response to a good faith offer than wasn't patently absurd.

I would have had the same reaction as you, but probably would not have gone the store manager over it.

Instead, I'd try to source elsewhere.

The person doesn't sound like a good salesman, but probably rather has been habituated to easy sales without any true sales skills. Some realtors are like this too. Houses sell themselves, just like many watches sell themselves.

But his time will come. The watch market will not be hot forever. A bit of the pricing bloom is already coming off the watch market rose.

Authorized Dealer Experience

 By: hanke : July 28th, 2022-13:36
Hi all- Just wanted to share a recent experience I had with an AD and get some opinions. I will leave the name of the AD out of the post as i'm more interested in opinions rather than shaming the AD. First, it's important to point out that I have a purcha...

To text might be misunderstood

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : July 28th, 2022-13:57
It's a way of communication that lacks both visual and verbal shades. Likely he thought there was some sort of friendship and acted so. But as you can see, that's just my interpretation, let's wait for other replies

The staff seems arrogant

It’s good u informed the owner about it. For all my purchases, I negotiate prices, and usually, the sweet part lies in the discounts. Sometimes it is 5%, at times 45%. Nowadays, it is between 10-20% and I usually walk away from ADs who try to price pieces...

Funny, I was debating making an under msrp offer on a piece at the AD and wondering what their reaction would be in this crazy market

 By: Fastwong : July 28th, 2022-14:05
I would take it as a light hearted no rather then a pointing and laughing sign of disrespect. Emojis and texts aren't exactly rich interactions so as a previous customer I have to assume this was maybe something too casual than disrespectful. These are we...

That's a little unpleasant, no question.

 By: g_schroder : July 28th, 2022-14:20
I'm not sure I would have written the store manager about a single emoji text response, but I understand your frustration and It certainly wasn't a thoughtful response by the AD. We're at a moment in the market where salesmen have become somewhat disconne...

It’s a text message, the most casual form of communication.

And you were negotiating. To me all I see here is that you missed the opportunity to counter his “ha ha” (i.e. his sticking to the list price).

I would be just as offended as you Hanke. Maybe even more so. What a disrespectful, arrogant and shallow answer. If the brands want to hold up the high standards as they do in their watches, they should start firing people at AD´s. I am sick of hearing ho...

When sales people differ from watch makers - experts

 By: Weems@8 : July 28th, 2022-20:50
I bought my Omega at a grey dealer from a gold smit. The guy works for a trader. It was clear the guy know about materials, movements, and very important that the customer know more about watches than he, so talking is not necessary, let’s pay the watch a...

Not the best professional response….

 By: Clueless_Collector : July 28th, 2022-14:41
I would appreciate if the sales will call or text saying, “I’m sorry but I can’t accept the offer blah blah…” The “Ha Ha” does appear to be arrogant as I imagine these 2 years if good businesses and waiting list create a sense the sales have more than eno...

You're right, that's ridiculous

 By: blau : July 28th, 2022-14:46
I am quite good friends with a couple of people in watch retail, such that we text regularly, EVEN about non-watch-related things. So: very friendly, very casual. None of them would ever respond that way to a serious offer I made on something they were se...

Hard to come to a conclusion from this story....Probably it's just me, but for happiness sake I try to *never* get offended with people, unless of course there's malice or bad faith on the other end ;-)

 By: FabR : July 28th, 2022-14:51
If he really meant to be disrespectful --- which seems unlikely if you have a close relationship, and would be hard to tell from a single text anyway --- I'd just reply with another joke, and another 10% off on my offer ;-) I'm afraid the end result here ...

Good one

If you are very close and have a friendship kind of relationship with the sales person I understand his reaction and you will get his sence of humor.

 By: Watchonthewrists : July 28th, 2022-14:53
But if its more a customer/ salesman contact I expect a more professional and respectful awnser from the salesman tbh . Even if he thinks your offer is low ball then still he needs to awnser with respect.

I personally would not tell the boutique manager because i think

I think…

It was a rude response and you were right to reply the way you did. Even though the text could be confused or impersonal or wherever, there is always just one correct way to answer a costumer. My verdict is: you are totally right, you are a customer.

You should be thankful it’s not a ROFL emoji 😜

Don’t overreact as you don’t need to beg for a watch like others.

From the point of service recovery,

 By: S F : July 28th, 2022-15:15
The response was insincere and accorded part of the blame to a client deemed to be more sensitive. Just a bad response. As the pricing system is not transparent, I will ask the AD if we could work out a deal instead of making an offer unless the AD indica...

A couple of observations.

 By: Uncle Chico : July 28th, 2022-15:16
Manners count. I agree that the AD representative should have been more diplomatic and responded respectfully to a serious offer. I don’t know how others negotiate but I would have made my offer verbally rather than in an email for the reason that perhaps...

. All booms and bubbles come crashing down. Congrats on saving yourself 37k USD. IMHO, a brick-and-mortar AD LOLing a returning customer for politely requesting a discount (one that’s <10% of the Msrp, by the looks of it) is both foolish and rude. A major...

there is a worldwide shortage of high quality made watches

 By: golden hands : July 28th, 2022-17:11
i would assume the ad employee would know this and thought that if mrrp was not going to be paid for the watch-then...you are not going to get at a reduced price. try and form a buying relationship with a high quality dealer you can trust and not an ad-i ...
