A pocket watch conversion?

I have seen pictures on the Internet of identical 15J movements used in Lip pocket watches from the 1930s or later.  Usually the Lip name was stamped on one of the movement plates.  I would strongly suspect the dial is refinished and the case is brand new.

There have been many of these recycled pocket watches sold over the internet in the last 10 years, frequently from he Ukraine.  Some pocket watch enthusiasts get upset about the repurposing of perfectly good watches.  Others feel that old pocket watches are rarely used in modern life and are better converted into something that could be enjoyed.

If you like it then fine, enjoy it.  The damage (if any) is already done.  These movements are not shock protected, they were designed to be kept relatively safe in a waistcoat pocket, so be careful when gesticulating or walking through door frames to avoid knocking the watch. They were also engineered and adjusted for a life in a pocket or at rest on a bedside table, so timekeeping may not be up to modern standards.

If it makes you feel better, some famous manufacturers, example: IWC with their original Portuguiesers, also did something similar and these are now worth a lot of money.
