"Dead dial" or "Constant seconds"

 By: reintitan : February 13th, 2019-12:18
There are some watches without a constant seconds hand on the dial (either via a center sweep hand or a sub-dial) or other easy indication from the face of the watch that visually shows it is running. These watches are sometimes described as having "dead ...

Some watches just look better w/o central seconds

I will never buy a watch without a seconds hand, but some watches I will never buy or wear look nice!

I prefer a seconds hand and always have it running on my 5960. It gives the conficende that the watch is ok and running and I have a preference for central seconds as it animates the dial - HOWEVER, i do have a few one 2 hander - ultra thin - it would not...

I agree with George. Some are better without. But, lol if you wanted one on the 5711 I would say a round small one at 6 oโ€™clock .imho

Very interesting cross section and variety as expected

The Royal Oak Jumbo comes to mind. I just donโ€™t feel the same about the other Royal Oakโ€™s, no matter how I try.

I am a 1.5 only 10% of my collection has a dead dial

I can become extremely obsessed with the Tyranny of the Seconds Hand, and it often distracts me from simply reading off the time. A central-dial hand only magnifies the problem. My favorite without seconds is the VC Overseas Ultra-Thin. Although it is an ...

"dead dial" and "constant second" are strangely construed expressions. Who originated these terms - and where? The first time that I have seen them - is Rght Here. We have long had Dead Seconds and Constant Force that rightfully have historical and techni...

but I might add that as a watch repairer, it's helpful to have a seconds hand to confirm operation - especially with a quartz watch where you have to stare with a loupe at the minute hand in hopes it will start moving Cazalea

And for my personal collection I would add no. 6 - I have (way too) many watches of different styles so it really doesn't matter.
