Watch review clichés

What are your favourite or least favourite phrases used in watch reviews? Of course they serve a purpose. As an abbreviated way of making a point, they save time and space while conveying widely understood meaning. 1. Wrist time 2. In the metal 3. Scratch...

Hmmm...

Things i prefer not to read / hear: Rare And Important Very Collectible / Collectability Holy Trinity (out-of-date phrase, no longer has any meaning whatsoever except for historical 1960s pieces ) Value-Oriented Swissness Thing i like to read / hear: Pass...

About that last one, I wince whenever someone refers to watch straps as "shoes" 😖

Breathless synthesis: "I've just gotten new shoes for my highly collectible, holy trinity daily beater, which I'm rocking today!" 🙄 (This grail was a former safe queen, acquired at an auction of rare and important watches, consigned by the original owner,...

<--- starts throwing things at his monitor :)

That sentence is soooooo wrong that right now i'm throwing things at my computer monitor. Oh yeah, and agree with you.

Not necessarily used in a review

but I hate the word "rocking". Just say "what are you wearing today"

Workhorse.

Before i got bitten by the bug, i never heard of safe queen, scratch magnet etc. I never was familiar with the online watch world. When going further the terms came to my knowledge. I have some favorites. I like languages and text, so i get fun and pleasu...

Hmmm...

Basically you're looking for words that have very little meaning or a very varied meaning for various people... Hmm... I'll keep this in mind the next time I write a review and when I read a review!

What's a good non-weapon version?

+1

Interesting - until you mentioned it here, I never associated "pull the trigger" with a weapon

 By: cazalea : July 1st, 2022-12:50
probably because I have so many other things can trigger or be triggered: like a power drill, garden hose nozzle, oil can, window cleaner spray bottle, etc.

OMG! ;-))

I’m sure there’s many more, but here are the first few that quickly came to mind, ranging randomly (and subjectively) from fun to annoying and anywhere in between:😁

1. Shoes (!!) I admit I (rarely) use it too, even if I try my best to resist!😂👞 2. Second wrist (this I use often too, in lieu of ‘second hand;’ again neither shorter nor clearer, but at least the first time you hear it, it does sound fun!😂) 3. The thousa...

What's a nick?

An alias?? A user-generated short-hand term that is incomprehensible to those not in the inner circle of fans? Seiko is plagued with them Cazalea

"Workhorse movement"

"Taking a cue" from the automotive world (not a cue stick as Dr. No would use)

Seller’s Description of a 1965 Buick Riviera; (modified by me to describe my watch ...) The dial of the incredible 1965 ROLEX here is finished in its original gorgeous Cream Color. This magnificent Timepiece has been meticulously maintained and preserved ...
