photo compression

Hi all -- the hands in this photo have jagged edges; looks like there might be a bit too much compression in the uploads. Anything I can do about this? ...

two things you might try...

01) Upload to a hosting site and link the url... the disadvantage is that there will not be a thumbnail (preview) image on the forum page 02) resize to 800px on the long side before uploading. The below is resized to 800x533 before upload, but the origina...

Thanks much!

Any hosting sites you can recommend?

At the moment I don't use a hosting site

so I can't make a recommendation , but some hosting site possibilities are: flickr is popular... I think I have a flickr account that I haven't used in ages... some possibilities: Google Photos, Imgur, TinyPic, Use, Flickr, 500px, SmugMug, etc ... not all...

Thanks

if you find that hosting works for you then the other route that you can go is to build up your own site... have fun. Casey

My "Test 3" above was also successful, at least on my screen. I then posted some photos last night ("3940 glamor shots") using Imgur HTML links on the Patek forum, and they seemed to work great. But it looks like my post was removed overnight, presumably ...

Not sure what you did but...

"take 3" is actually hosted by WPS (i.e. uploaded to WPS) not linked to Imgur. You can see that by right clicking on the image and copying the URL. Post " 3940, meet macro lens " dated: Dec 03, 2019,06:25 AM is a valid post in the Patek Philippe Forum, sh...

That’s so weird

I didn’t upload anything to WPS; I just pasted Imgur’s HTML links into the field. The WPS server must be automatically downloading the files at these links.

I am guessing that's what happened...

the WPS servers must have "uploaded" the photos from the links... or "downloaded", I never remember which is grammatically correct ; ) What I do is type the post text and then go to "html" mode and edit in the links manually... it's a bit of a hassle to s...

Actually I think I’m all set...

Regardless of what’s happening behind the scenes, the images that display in the site when I proceed this way are superior to the images that display if I upload to WPS directly. For example, compare the photo that led off this thread with the same photo ...

great that you found a solution that works...
