Harry Winston's 2019 Timepieces (Updated with MicroMosaic Technique Video)

Oct 09, 2019,04:51 AM

Recently viewed some exquisite Harry Winston's 2019 timepieces and remarkably impressed with their crafts and attention to details placed especially on the aesthetic aspect of their watches.

Before entering the Salon of Mr Winston (aka “The King of Diamonds”), many perceive their timepieces are beyond reach.  To my surprise, after seeing and photographing the pieces, the numbers whispered to me were quite attractive.  So some early Christmas ideas if you're considering gifts for your other half, or even yourself smile

Will begin with the pieces for the Ladies and then the Gentlemen ...

Enjoy!

We hear a lot about Marquetry, the craft of piecing of veneers to form patterns.  This is also intriguing -  the art of glass Micromosaic from the historic city of Ravenna, Italy.  Ravenna was the capital city of the Roman Empire in the 5th century; and Byzantine Italy through the 8th century, propelled the art of mosaic (using small pieces of colored glass, ceramic, stone or other materials known collectively as tesserae) to  create masterpieces on local walls and ceilings of the early Christian monuments.

To better understand and appreciate the art of Micromosaic, and the meticulous skill and painstaking effort needed to create every dial of the Harry Winston's Premier Precious Micromosaic, please spend a couple of minutes to view this educational video by Harry Winston.

Harry Winston's Art of Micromosaic

Employing this ancient art and technique, HW commisions this Premier Precious Micromosaic Automatic 36mm Collection in 4-micromosaic-dial versions (Blue, Turquoise, Brown and Red) in limited 30 pieces per dial version.

The Harry Winston Avenue Collection celebrates its 20th anniversary.  Named after Fifth Avenue, the location of HW NY Flagship Salon. The Harry Winston Avenue Classic Moon Phase case design reflects its grand arched doorway that leads into the Fifth Avenue Salon.

The 18K WG case (21.4mm x 36.1mm)sets with 29 brilliant-cut diamonds, is also shaped to follow the contours of the wrist to ensure perfect comfort and perfect seating on ladies'wrists. Decorated automatic movement, Caliber HW2101 with 18K RG skeletonised rotor and silicon balance spring, beating at 28,800VPH.

There's another attractive version - the Midnight Yozora (Japanese for night sky) pair which comes in two diameters 39mm (for Ladies) and 42mm (for men), uniting maki-e art with HW High Jewelery know-how.  The watch comes with a matching fountain pen by the revered Nakaya.

The Emerald Automatic 33mm collection is synonymous with HW.  The octagonal gold case  is shaped to Mr Winston's favourite diamond cut, the emerald cut.  The 18K WG or RG case dimension is 33.3mm x 39.3mm housing an automatic caliber HW2003 with silicon hairspring, beating at 4 Hz and with a power reserve of 72 hours.

Ocean Retrograde Automatic has 4 versions -  42mm case (11.3mm height) of 18K RG and WG, and two other variations (limited to 20 pieces each variation) which have gem-setting of 67 baguette-cut diamonds each.
3D architectural dial design featuring jumping retrograde on a black satin hour-minute-circular stacking above a sapphire date-disc.
Within is automatic 4Hz Caliber HW3306 with silicon hairspring, 18K WG rotor and power reserve of 72 hours.

Project Z13, the sporty thirteen editions of Project Z (limited to 300 pieces) features a 42.2mm Zalium alloy case with an openwork architecture design with hour-minute, date and moonphase complications, exposing the platine with radial guilloche decoration.
The hands of the hour-minute are coated with with blue SLN for blue emission during dim lighting.  To provide increase contrast, instead just with blue a darker shade of carbon details are added.
To the middle of the dial, is the date retrograde-hand pointing to the blue perimeter date-track.  The thrill is seeing the hands swinging back to the first of each month at the strike of midnight.
Moving down to moonphase, the first moon phase display is a unique dodecagonal moon with a Shuriken symbol.

Powering the Z13 is automatic 4 Hz Caliber HW3202 with silicon hairspring, a 18K WG rotor and has a power reserve of 68 hours.

Matching the blue dial theme, the vibrant blue continues along the top-stitching of the black rubber-and-calfskin strap.

I figured that's how they made it, with little chipped pieces of glass, but seeing them do it does add dimensionality to it and makes me appreciate it so much more. Goodness! That's a beautiful art! Thanks for sharing this very important video Kong!
