GO vs. JLC

A friend of mine will buy his first mechanical watch next week. He will move forward with either a JLC Master Ultra thin or a GO senator. He asks me for advice, but as I have no experience with either of these brands I ask you guys. Any pros and cons that should be taken into consideration? Quality, service costs etc etc..

There can only be one advice...

... which is that your friend should go for the watch he likes most. Quality can be found with both on very high level, service costs should not be all too different. I firmly believe the purchase of a fine timepiece should be an emotional decision, espec...

+2 The decision should be based on desire...

Both JLC and GO are excellent brands, and the quality and service for both on these two watches is of a similar level. So, it comes down to which particular watch speaks to the owner. I own a JLC MUT and I personally love it, but I have nothing bad to say...

Whichever brand he chooses steer him towards a preowned model. GO in particular is "cheap" when buying used. I almost pulled the trigger on a used GO Navigator perpetual around $11,000 USD from a respected dealer. I also almost purchased a JLC mut perpetu...

GO decorates their movements better than JLC.

In my experience I would much rather deal with a Richemont brand (JLC) vs the Swatch group (GO) from a service perspective. Richemont brands have always been more flexible and fairer on service pricing with me. The Swatch group (GO included) has hammered ...

My friend ended up with a JLC Réserve de Marche with a silver Grey dial. His first mechanical watch. In the end it was that one that appealed most to him. Thanks for your input gents.

Superb choice

That’s a watch for the long run. Also great if he is a one watch guy.
