Vacheron has their beautiful 222 from 1977. A few hundred pieces made only.
Girard-Perregaux has their Laureato 8010 from 1995. A few hundred pieces made only too. To compare apples and apples is not quite accurate but as this is the first laureato made by GP that is a mechanical automatic (cal 3100), I look at the 8010 as their rebirth into mechanical from quartz.
Anyway, letโs not get pedantic about things. At a 36 mm case diameter and 7.9 mm thick itโs a keeper of a rare bird. Tritium dial, white gold applied indices and hands, and the 100 meter water resistance is icing on the cake. The case and bracelet made by the same folks as AP Royal Oaks. Itโs exquisite.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Laureato and Iโm excited to have this iconic piece with me. It is with the Laureato 8010 that it all began mechanically for the GP Laureato.
