There are few manufactures who have a continuous time line from when they first started so that doesn't bother me as much as an old name being used by new company with little or no

link with their history, which is not the case with GP. GP is a great manufacturer and I would just consider their models on their own merits. I have long given up about being worried about some-ones opinion based on their limited experience in our wonderful shared interest of horology. Those who say ''Oh that's an RO copy'' would fall into that bracket. The great thing about the Laureato is that you are getting a great watch without paying for the hype - I tend to go with my feelings which is often counter to financial sense or others opinions. Best wishes Will.

Considering my first GP purchase...advice/reassurances?

 By: Phaedrus29 : September 5th, 2020-10:05
I'm seriously considering picking up my first GP, one of the Laureato models. I have some reservations, and was wondering what people think and what experiences they've had. The first is that when I've showed people pics of the watch the response is often...

It is very much RO-inspired, but so is a Nautilus, Hublot, Octo, etc.

However, this is only something that the <1% of people who are in the watch collecting community will care about. The vast majority of people have no idea what an RO or Laureato is, and all that really matters is whether or not the watch is attractive.

The impossibly of separating the product and the brand ...

Purely as a watch laureato is in my opinion as interesting as the the royal oak or Nautilus. It has its own history, the first one was a very elegant thin quarz watch and cutting edge for the times. But then we have GP ... Terribly managed for years, poor...

History of a brand

A first GP, that is cool. I want also a GP. Important for me, when a watch brand started. Everything before 1900 is my goal. All of my watches do. Not made then, but the brand is from. Longines, Baume and Mercier, Omega, and Tissot. Before 1800, that is g...

I too appreciate the history of a brand, however...

I often wonder the importance when a company is no longer independent and owned by a very large corporation (in this case Kering). I say this because I have some experience with some of the brands owned by Richemont and I feel that it's more about the bot...

Kering

The corporation which own also Ulysse Nardin. Richemont, big and large. Great names over there. For me, a large corporation feels like a safe haven for the watch houses. When an independent have troubles to sell watches, than fingers crossed they maybe su...

Thanks for your thoughts so far...

Yes my personal opinion is that any resemblance to or inspiration from the RO doesn't detract from the watch...I was just wondering how often this "issue" is brought up to people who own the watches. That is a good point that most manufacturers don't have...

Oh good point, I didn't realize that!

I have a RO 15202 and a Laureato skeleton

And they both feel different and u enjoy both immensely

In chinese feng shui or geomancy its a very lucky watch. The 8 sided besel is shaped like a bagua. AP uses that in the Ro Patek uses that in the Nautilus / Aquanaut.

See their prices now even in the secondary market, not bad at all. Laureato is a great watch, the rotor is not gold but its accurate and functional. Cool, designer this guy Genta. You should get a Laureato even if you have the Ro. My opinion. 😊 Geross. ...

Ya I am strongly leaning toward picking up a Laureato to go with my RO. Regarding you post...

Nautilus and Aquanaut don't have 8-sided bezels right? Also, Genta was very cool indeed but didn't design the Laureato...that was Adolfo Natalini I think, but I'm not sure.

The Laureato bezel....

I read that the Laureato bezel was inspired by the Duomo in Florence, which is very cool if true, though of course Genta's RO had a role to play there I'm sure!

Well, I am the AP Moderator on this website and I bought one.

I really could care less what other people think in general. I enjoy my GP as much as my APs and anything else I have. And that is why I buy watches, for my own enjoyment. Another person's opinion of my watch would never diminish or enhance how I feel abo...

Stunning

I've seen your pics on here and drooled over your watch a lot...it's absolutely fantastic! The ceramic with the solid dial is that one I'm really leaning toward, but I love that blued Earth to Sky. Yes I agree that other people's opinions aren't relevant ...
