Hi Z3.

I submitted a question to GP at their website and got the below response.

It might be interesting if there was a website/database where one could enter watch data to help recreate lost records. Not sure if your forum would be the right site or not (or too big of a problem to invest in)?

Regards,
Dan

I have well received your recent enquiry. After its reference number starting with a B and the 10 carat gold plating (illegal in Switzerland), this watch has been made by our former US subsidiary, Girard-Perregaux Corp. New York. After WWII namely, the US government decided to raise very high import taxes on finished watches, in order to protect the local industry. So, the Swiss manufacturers started to send movements with hands on to their US representatives, who assembled the watches with locally made cases (by Wadsworth here), thus avoiding to pay taxes. That practice stopped at the end of the 1970's, when the law changed. As meanwhile our subsidiary has been closed and its archive destroyed, I cannot give you any detail about your watch, unfortunately. All I can tell you is that the caliber GP 47 has been used from 1950 to 1955.
