Clous de Paris

Nov 04, 2020,03:17 AM

Hi all,

A question for the experts. AP is obviously very famous for their beautiful engine turned “tapisserie” dials. GP have their also very beautiful Clous de Paris dials on their Laureato models. Are these also engine turned and made in a similar way?

Both have their appeal but just curious about the guilloche craft behind the GP dials.

Many thanks,
Chi Kai

But, FWIW, I far prefer the look of the Clous de Paris.

Me too cannot answer your question and I prefer this...

Or could it be CNC-machined guilloche

As opposed to stamped? Been doing a bit more reading. Stamped guilloche is the cheapest, followed by CNC-machined and then off course at the top is hand guilloche. It is said that stamped guilloche is often shallow due to the limitations of the stamping. ...

Definitely a possibility.

My source for stamped dials was an article by Monochrome Watches. Perhaps GP themselves would answer an inquiry about the topic. Regards, Baruch

Do you remember which article?

I might ask my AD when things open up again to pose the question to GP. Many thanks, Chi Kai

Know because of information from the manufacture or is it based on what you see in the physical dial? Or because RRP is too cheap to be engine turned? Many thanks, Chi Kai

Fair point!
