Cool. I have a royal oak in my collection
Mar 30, 2023,12:51 PM
As well as laureatos.
I find them nothing alike.
Apart from both having octagonal bezels (even that is cut differently) they are so different from each other. 3. Hander or chrono. On strap or bracelet.
See pics for comparisons.
In fact, the entire royal oak case follows an angular cut.
Not the case for the Laureato (literally). The bezel sits on a round base. And the case is tonneau shaped.
The bracelet is also different in a multitude of ways.
Perhaps take another look.

Cool!

Especially with the clean no-date. Add an index marker at 3 o’clock, and I’m in 😂
BINGO!

Double index would be nice but

Too much like the royal oak. Single bridge I quite like. It’s a nice logo and very GP. If nothing in the lower portion of the dial, it will look empty.
Then we’ll have to agree to disagree

…I’m just generally a big fan of a double index at twelve, but single indexes elsewhere (GS and Rolex often do it with double indexes at 3 6 and 9, which I find heavy). And I find joy in an empty lower dial…I’d remove the AP logo from the lower dial in th...
We can certainly try the double index
By: SingaporeMarc : March 30th, 2023-13:04
No harm at all. There was an interest article about how AP removed any words from the lower dial in one of their recent models ( I think it was the 15500 or such) and then realized it was a boo boo and put it back it. I too don’t like too much text on dia...
I can see that

And thanks for humouring me I’ve always preferred empty space down below - see for example the new PF Tondas, Chopard Alpine Eagle, Piagets, Bulgari OFs, Nautiluses, even Hublots. But I can see there are plenty of people who don’t like the empty space and...
Agree. I quite like the

PF toda as well. Such elegance. Perhaps it works for the tonda because the dial is flat/non-guilloche? 🤷🏻♂️ It’s also a strange thing … once we get used to something, it seems strange when it’s not there. (Until we get used to it again). Like when my unc...
Good observation…

You have a sharp eye. The reason for the skinny 12 is to give credence to the original (the laureato 8010). See picture here. Having said that, the indices for the modern laureato copper 38 are much thicker that the 8010. So this is indeed a mix and match...
Oh wow. That’s a curse we both

Share. I almost sense imbalance. My wife is the editor in chief of a luxury magazine and she too has that curse. Which part of the valley were you in? I was in Santa Clara for 10 years while in tech.
So here is what we did
By: SingaporeMarc : March 29th, 2023-16:44
1. Remove the date. There is one version with the date at 6 pm. 2. Remove the GP at 12 and replaced with index 3. With the eyes of you guys, put back the 3 o clock index marker 4. Move the single bridge down. 5. Elongated the hands. More elegant. 6. Remov...

Yeah. We all agree there should
By: SingaporeMarc : March 29th, 2023-17:20
Be no date or at the minimum date to 6 o clock. I find the dial busy GP, then Giarard-Perregaux, then single bridge then laureato, then automatic. Way to much text for me.
I completely agree.

Having said that, I do like how it all looks and put together, irrespective of the date window. It is a very beautiful and appealing watch.

By: Mr.Gatsby : March 30th, 2023-07:53
But no matter how you play with the dial configuration, the AP design language to me is stronger, those angular case lines, the resemblances to a ship’s porthole and that very nicely tapered bracelet like the body of a seahorse…really to my eye is the sup...

I’m not saying that you’re trying to compare it with AP. But for me I can’t help but think of AP Royal Oaks when looking at the Laureato, and that is why I’ve never quite pulled the trigger despite the occasional temptations. Best Gatsby
