Post SIHH 2017: Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-02:05
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton Friends, Finally, the teasing is over! We now get to see in full glory what Girard-Perregaux has been posting in their IG account for the past week. We get the full meaning of Curved, Sculptural, Integrated, Octagonal, L...

It's a bomb!

 By: crown comfort : May 5th, 2017-02:30
the video shows its amazing beauty. A worthy successor to the 3 sapphire bridge Laureato, CC

+1! But I would also love to see...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:15
A new version of the Laureato 3 Bridges! Best Blomman

You and me both! :) [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-03:51

Perhaps, a 3 bridge would be great

 By: crown comfort : May 6th, 2017-00:19
but then they already released a single bridge Tourbillon, so I doubt very much they would want to annoy those customers by later bringing out the 3 bridge version. I also like the exclusivity of the 3 sapphire bridge Laureato with a very limited edition....

Yes and No....

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-03:53
I agree that it might disturb the single Bridge Tourbillon, but in the same time - the Three Bridge Toubillon is on yet another level! As for the 3 Sapphire Bridges - agree, can't be the same, needs to be something different! Best Blomman

+1! [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : June 18th, 2017-01:48

I like it.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : May 5th, 2017-03:41
.....pushing it on size for me, but I like it

If as with the 1966 Skeleton...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:17
Then it will be even better in real! Best Blomman

The 1966 is absoultely stunning!

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-03:54
More elegant then the Laureato, but that is natural since it is a dress watch! Best Blomman

Nice watch indeed but..

 By: moc : May 5th, 2017-04:15
Probably in the list of architectural inspirations they forgot to mention another octagonal skeleton watch from another brand? 😉 Mo

+1 [nt]

Please see reply to Mo [nt]

Please see my reply to Mo [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:43

Yes, several similarities...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-03:56
But in detail I find them different enough to both be interesting. Best Blomman

Please see... [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:43

Mo, I agree that there are several similarities...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:42
Octagon shape, colour scheme, skeleton, type of watch and style. Which is natural since the two are competitors in the same category, Sport chic. BUT, if you look at the skeleton structure of this GP movement and compare it with the AP 15305 MichaelC post...

Sorry late reply Blomman,I agree that "in depth"the watches can be dissected as different ,but..

 By: moc : May 8th, 2017-02:16
What was meant to be a pun statement for me underlined an unavoidable comparison that anyone automatically makes in front of this new GP. For example: Now,we could argue for ever that one has a tourbillon, another one doesn't etc etc,the point of the matte...

Thank you for your reply, dear Mo!

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 8th, 2017-14:57
Yes, this example is more "look alike" then the one shown before. Still not same. Similar, yes. But that we see in basically all different watch segments. The point of GP making this Skeleton version of the Laureato I think is natural. Last year they intr...

I think it's a great watch.

 By: Mr.Gatsby : June 17th, 2017-23:51
I've seen it in the metal here in Singapore. Read all the comments about this watch and conclude this is truly an interesting watch. Firstly, regarding the skeleton dial, I am not bothered by its similarities to the AP RO skeletons. The differences are nu...

Thank you for your input, Mr. G!

By: blomman Mr Blue : June 18th, 2017-00:17
Yes, a lot of brands do have Skeleton watches. I think the combination of octagon shape and skeleton triggered the AP comments...

Indeed :-)

 By: Mr.Gatsby : June 18th, 2017-01:18
I guess part of their histories are intertwined.

A topic I am trying to confirm!

By: blomman Mr Blue : June 18th, 2017-01:49
We already know there is a link between GP and JLC... Best Blomman

I'm really digging it! The SS version.

 By: Joepny : May 5th, 2017-04:25
100M WR makes it a true sports watch. Love the openwork design! Looks like a beautiful case finish from the IG pics. No date and restrained text to avoid ruining the harmony. The movement looks in proportion to the case. My only quibble seems to be a smid...

I hope/think not

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:45
From the looks of it, it is the same hands as on the regular 42mm version. In real, the hour hand do not look too short. If anything, maybe a tad too wide. Best Blomman

Interesting

 By: Esharp : May 5th, 2017-04:31
So it is as we surmised... Looks pretty good! The size is a bit large for me - and there will be the inevitable comparisons with another watch, I'm afraid. Speaking of which, I wonder what sort of price point this will be pitched at... Best E.

Btw...

 By: Esharp : May 5th, 2017-05:57
Something bugs me about the hands. Their proportions - maybe too wide? Too much metal around the lumed section? Or am I just used to the hands of the RO? Best E.

I agree that the hands look a bit wide.

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:46
Hope to see this one in real soon to confirm not too wide. Best Blomman

Fully agree!

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:48
Now the question is, do you prefer it in this Laureato case? Or in the 1966 case? So very different characters in the watches, it is hard to tell it is based on the same movement... Best Blomman

Easy both ;-)

 By: Alkiro1 : May 5th, 2017-11:54
The classy 1966 in its pink gold livery from Monday to Friday and the sporty Laureato for the weekend. Best wishes Alkiro

:-)

 By: Alkiro1 : May 6th, 2017-04:01
Best wishes Alkiro

GP is working on the right direction, BUT

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : May 5th, 2017-04:42
I'm not so impressed, likely because they are following the same path of other competitors, RO above all. Nothing wrong, i really appreciate their efforts in widening the references, but i like much more the strap version, which IMHO achieves an unparalle...

I am secretly whiching for a ....

New Laureato Three Bridges! Let's hope one day... Best Blomman

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-03:57

Indeed! :) [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:51

Hmm…I definitely prefer it to the AP RO, but then hate that it doesn’t have a seconds hand.

 By: anonymous09 : May 5th, 2017-09:08
But that withstanding, it’s no Roger Dubuis Excaliber Skeleton. An relatively easy pass from me, unfortunately.

But there is a seconds hand!

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:53
Look at 10 o'clock - there the sub seconds are located. Unfortunately, all press photos are 10:10 which covers it with the hour hand. Best Blomman

Personal preferences...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-03:59
In general I agree on preferring central seconds. But in this case I tend to think it would disturb too much of the skeleton view. Best Blomman

I like it...

 By: vitalsigns : May 5th, 2017-09:20
...and probably (surprising to me) moreso than the RO skeleton. And this coming from someone who isn't a big fan of the Laureato, and 70s styles in general (with some exceptions). The skeleton dial adds some much needed modernity, IMO. As someone else not...

As you know we do not discuss prices here....

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 5th, 2017-11:55
But GP do put their prices on their web site... Best Blomman

Crikey

 By: Esharp : May 5th, 2017-19:31
They're not messing about with the price tag, that's for sure....!

No, GP do not mess around...

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-04:01
But considering what you get... Best Blomman

Would need to see it in the flesh...

 By: KMII : May 5th, 2017-22:58
As it is I have to say I found the IG tease pictures much more appealing than the complete watch. Not sure why but it looks a bit chubby to me. Maybe it's the hands, or the distance between the hour hand's end and the edge of the case (thick bezel). Someh...

Hope you will see this one soon!

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-04:02
I am still do see it myself, but I am really excited to do so! Best Blomman

I am looking forward to it, too!

 By: KMII : May 6th, 2017-10:29
Always different live

Indeed! [nt]

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-10:56

Very pleasing to the eye....

 By: chikai168 : May 6th, 2017-02:57
I like this a lot! Thanks for posting. GP really killed it this year! BW, Chi Kai

This year as well....! :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : May 6th, 2017-04:03
For several years now, we saw a lot of great new watches from Girard-Perregaux! Best Blomman

Now I share the enthusiasm about this one...

 By: KIH : July 9th, 2017-10:55
.. this is truly a superb piece. No question about it. I wonder how long this will be in the "collection"..... Very nice piece indeed! Ken

Convinced? :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : July 10th, 2017-05:58
Yes, looks fantastic! Best Blomman
