Incoming: Girard-Perregaux Chronometer

This one has come all the way from the land of Oz. Here's the "before" pictures from the seller:

Movement is the high-beat (36K beats/hour) GP cal. 42.1:

Has a soft iron inner cover and a unique inner case construction:

There is an odd thing about the case, it has double lug holes. Never seen that before. Like this other example on the web.

If anyone can explain the purpose of these double holes, I'd like to understand the function.

Here's the "after" picture.  It is amazing what you can do with Q-tips, Polywatch, a blue Blitz cloth and an old T-shirt.  Put it on a nice Keleran calfskin band, and here is the result:

Unfortunately, while the crown is a signed original, it's lost the plating.  If anyone else has a similar watch and can tell me the dimensions of the crown, I'd be greatly appreciative.  I've seen one that I think is correct, but not sure if it will fit the Ref. 9086-GA case.  None of the regular web-based parts suppliers have any vintage GP information.

The watch seems to be running very well and will go in the service line, but there are several ahead of it.

Thanks for your indulgence!

Congratulation - a very nice catch! :) My experience is that these Chronometer HF often keep very good time even if not serviced in a long time. As for your Q's: Crown is approx 5 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick. My understanding of the double holes is that...

Thank you!

Richeville ref: 2510

Dear Blomman I often wondered about double spring-bar lug holes. My G-P Richeville ref: 2510 has double holes and the case is rectangular! I do not think curved spring-bars are the answer for me. I had assumed the double holes were to accommodate a thicke...

In this case I agree

When the the case is straight it is not because of curved spring bars. But as you say, depending on thickness of the strap/bracelet. Please share some shots of your 2510! Which dial version do you have? I would love to find a blue dial one! :) Best Blomma...

Excellent catch

I had seen this one for sale and if it would have been steel then I would have jumped on it. Good cleaning up job, looks ready to wear. I think the crown is okay, you may consider refreshing the gold-plating rather than trying to find a replacement. Outer...

Nice catch.

I know that Australia is a good hunting ground for Chronometer HFs as I have imported and exported five of the first generation models with calibre 32A and used them to pad out responses to discussion here!
