蛋挞 (“Daan taat”)

Special delivery from Tai Cheong in Central to my belly on the other side of the planet.  24 hours or so from pick up to delivery, hand carried across the world.

Even after the journey they always taste good.

One of two long standing “take out” orders I place when people are coming from Hong Kong.

The egg custard is classic firm custard texture, and sweet with a distinct taste of egg (it's egg custard !). Pastry is a short pastry (so crumbly and buttery). Most like them warm, but I prefer cold as the egg taste is less. Next time you are in HK, and ...

Ok I’ll bite (haha)

What’s the second HK delivery order you make?? Best E.

Haha, it wasn't meant to be a teaser.

It's something very simple and not specific to HK; a scallion sesame bread (pancake) from a Shanghainese restaurant. Also travels (and reheats) well.

Interesting! thanks!

I grew up eating these egg tarts!

I can't eat them anymore since I realized each one is like a 600 calorie bomb (super buttery and flaky crust with super rich creamy egg filling). Strange, I used to eat them three at a time! I haven't had one for years!

I know. One needs to be careful.

The problem is when people bring them they don't bring one, it is usually 8-12. Lots of self discipline needed !

If someone brought 8-12 right now, I'd probably eat three.

I need to make up for the lost chances of eating these things. They are DELICIOUS!
