Life is GOOD!

Yamazaki 25
Hakushu 25
Hibiki30

Ah.........

Common question - which is the best whisky?

My humble answer- there is no best whisky

Let your palette and mood decide not by the label or ratings on a website.

But the nas and umeshu plus some bowmore are available Cheers PAt

Couldn't agree more on your observation about best whisky still (pun intended)

The yama 25 stands out for me. Sherry bomb and extremely long lasting on the palette even after an hour. Cheers PAt

Very impressed with the Hibiki - but the finest Whisky is.....

Cheers PAt

That is quite the trio!!

I personally prefer the Hakushu 18 over the Hibiki 21, so my opening hypothesis is that I'd prefer the Hakushu 25 over the Hibiki 30. But, wow, would love the opportunity to test that hypothesis and also enjoy the Yamazaki 25!! Thanks for sharing!! NickO

I have tried those and my taste buds tells me

 By: patrickmaniac : December 18th, 2018-17:56
Each are quite different. The hakushu are generally fresh, green fruits but the hakushu 25 is much rounded than the 18,12 and nas. The hibiki are very easy to sip and smooth. Like a good blended jap whisky should be. The hibiki 30 was over powered by the ...

Fully agreed also on your answer about best one

 By: Mike H : December 18th, 2018-14:35
My personal feedback : - Hakushu : excellent - Hibiki : good but I was expecting better - Yamazaki : I did not try yet, would love to have your feedback But to be honest I even prefer the Kavalan, one of my favorite being the Ex-Sherry Oak. I also love th...

Wow Mike, we share a very similar palette!!

 By: NickO : December 18th, 2018-15:49
I, too, find the Hakushu to be excellent and was left a little wanting on the Hibiki. I also tried Kavalan for the first time a couple months ago and became an instant fan. Given how close we are in our preferences, I’m excited to track down the other two...

I shall be delighted to have your feedback on these...

Obviously these are not easy to find in every stoe but a good spirits store should be able to some for you to try ; if not come to Paris and we'll enjoy Cheers, Mike

Oh Mike

I have tried a couple of kavalan. Like the ex bourbon, manzanilla, single malt, px, vino, rum, peaty etc. . The solist sherry cask stands out for me for price vs value. Wonderful on the nose. Cheers PAt

Agreed Patrick 🥃 [nt]

Mike, I'll text you when I land Japanese whisky is becoming harder and harder to find here in The States. Fortunately, I have a distributor in NYC who can source almost any whisky or whiskey (for a price). I've recently had good luck at Duty Free when I a...

At that moment, my taste buds were swinging towards sherry bomb

 By: patrickmaniac : December 18th, 2018-17:58
So yama 25 for me. However sometimes I prefer peat so Islay like a uigedail works out great. No need for fancy whisky. Cheers PAt

Thanks for this very impressive report on your guided tour and tasting of Suntory spirits. Just an observation, not a criticism, but how many purists would have become interested in Japanese whiskey if the Yamazaki 12 had not been awarded best whiskey in ...

Agree

 By: patrickmaniac : December 18th, 2018-18:00
And that’s why I would prefer a blind tasting if possible. I believe it’s was the Yamazaki 18 that started the craze and of course with a certain gentleman from Scotland who published a guide on the world best whisky. Subjective and it’s a guide. Just my ...

Yamazaki 12...

...is my favorite 'affordable' whisky. Too bad I can't find it anymore.

Check these out Yama 12 galore

Cheers PAt ...

fun fun fun!

It looks like your field trip to Yamazaki was very interesting and fun! Definitely will need to make a trip out there. In the past few years, it's been tough finding good aged statements in Japan at retail shops (excluding Donki).

Donki prices have inflated as well but when desperate

It’s one of the places to go to. Cheers PAt
