Sometimes I don’t get the cork out perfectly in one piece, but the wine smells close to perfection.

1983 is one of those wonderful anomalies from Bordeaux. It’s not a well regarded vintage but for Chateau Margaux and Chateau Palmer it was one of the greats.
Inspired by Tony’s Richard Lange picture today some pleasant background reading with some fine wine for later tonight.
Ok a few days off wine after today and then I’ll drink something more reasonable.

I was told that the year following a great vintage year and '82 was right up there with '45, thus '83s, especially in a First Growth Bordeaux are really good buys - Enjoy BTW: Whoever hasn't broken a cork hasn't opened enough bottles ;-)
It's nice to find value, if you can call it that, in less famous vintages.

I actually preferred the 83. Now Mouton a totally different story.

That’s one of the many things I love about Bordeaux. There are the icons: 1945, 1959, 1961, 1982, 1990, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010 (15, 16, 18, 19 and 20 all look good… climate change or wine making or combo?), but between the icons there are equivalent an...
