Marqués de Riscal Reserva: Hunting for house wines.

Oct 16, 2018,18:30 PM

Marqués de Riscal Reserva wines are basically made from grapes from Tempranillo vines planted before 1970's, grown in the best clay-limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This was the introduction on their website. The add that all wine are aged for two years in American Oak. This really helps create a wine that can be enjoyed young or cellared for a few years.

The Reserva with its wire mesh is quite easily gound across the world st very reasonable prices.

The Grand Reserva is in a higher class and quality not as as easy to gind but really worth the hunt.

Lastly the Proximo is one i just discovered in my hunt for dsily house wine to enjoy with any meal. I was pleasantly surpride thst such bargains are out there. We know about winery’s sevinds in this case the Proximo is it third.  This wine seems not to be easy to fiind on the west coast.

Share some house wines you enjoy.

Never had the proximo. Rioja is always easy to accompany food ,be it at crianza level or above and reasonably priced. I bought a case of this a few years ago and it accompanied many a home meal. very balanced and not too heavy. best henry ...

Hey! We just drank some of that last night

To accompany rib eye steak all smothered in mushrooms. The Rioja (Not Reserva) was excellent. Mike ...

Don’t tell you already drank your last hoard from your recent event.

Love this wine, well balanced and as it opens up, quite tasty. Have been a big fan of Rioja for a while, probably due to my UK upbringing and basic training was in Claret. Cheers, Tim

I was able to locate the Grand Reserva Baron de Ley.

Not the bargsin hunter version but i will try to get a hold of the 2010 Grand Reserva. Could not find the Reserva. The same was true on the Proximo i can only get it through my wine merchant nowhere online in the US. Bill
