Chateau Palmer is one of my favourite wines from Margaux and you're correct in saying they produce more than decent wines in light vintages.I recall my very first Palmer was a 1977,which was so perfumed albeit mid body and length that it surprised me ,as i picked it up from the shop in New York for a modest US$20,it performed way above the vintage and its peers,as a '77 Latour paled beside it.
I have always preferred the '83 Palmer to the '82 and repeated consumption has not changed my opinion, although the '82 was pricier and supposed to be from a stellar vintage.I have the same feeling as regards Chateau for the '82 and '83.Margaux
Alas, i have never drunk the '66 but the '70 is definitely a stunner, but memory eludes me as to how i enjoyed it.
Drink up the '66 and let us have your enjoyment notes.
best
