Hi, could anybody from Japan assist here please.

My wife and I got a present from our Japanese friends. A lovely bottle of what seems to be 25 % alcohol content liqueur. We tried to find any information on it and if there are any specific way we could drink that ( I know it may seems funny) so we can enjoy it as it was designed. Could anyone from our Japanese members or anyone else who knows it be kind and give us some advice. Thanks!

of sweet potato Shochu, it is a Japanese distilled beverage. It is made in Kyushu Japan. You can drink it a number of way: straight, with ice, room temperature or chilled. Some people think of Shochu as a Japanese version of vodka.

I have been drinking Shochu for awhile and find it very tasty. If you like it there are other varieties to try. Such as Shochu made from rice, carrot, and barley.

Shochu has a very distinctive aroma and taste. Maybe you found out already. The sweet potato kind, i.e., the kind gifted to you, has a stronger smell than that distilled from barley, for example. But maybe the purple sweet potato variety like yours might ... 

We are going to open it tonight in fact. Week days and evenings are quite busy for us ( work, kids, chores, homework check, ect..) , so Friday evening is a day where we have a time to slow down, sit and both enjoy the drink.

I will definitely try one with orange , soda and ice. Tried to find Hoppy in KL , but local Isetan does not have it on stock. Living over 30 years in Japan must have give you an opportunity to try many many things. Just few days back my 10 year sold son a...

Those kara-age look professionally made and delicious. It will be nice when you can again travel to Japan. I have tasted lots of things, most of which I like, but there are somethings that still aren't for me. Fun to try, nevertheless.
