Yes, the prices have risen so much over the years

especially Californian cabernets.
I recalled buying my first Opus One-1983-,for what seemed a fairly pricy $50 then,at Ghirendelli Square
I have not purchased any since the prices escalated .Still enjoying the lesser wines like Chateau Montelena, Stag's Leap at more earthbound prices.

Unlikely Rolex or Patek "on sale" but wine prices falling thru floor
By: cazalea : April 2nd, 2020-10:32
Local deals seem to be around $100 a case delivered for wines selling normally from $20-40 a bottle. A local vineyard is offering wines normally from $300-420 a case at the tasting room for $99 a case delivered to your home I think this coronavirus thing ...
Is that a bed in your Wine cellar

Or are you just keeping a few bottles at your bedside - just in case...? Either way is a great idea
I guess I like dry rosé best, then champagne, then pinot

Since I've had some sinus issues I can't fully appreciate the bouquet of a big red. So those are aging while I work through this. I'm not much of a hard alcohol / mixed drink guy, to be honest, but I have a few single malts that are used for medicinal pur...

Wine merchants are only taking delivery orders with long lead times. I did an inventory yesterday, plenty of red but stocks of white have taken a hammering in recent weeks ;-)) ...
A note I got from a friend in Northern Calif

“My wine storage warehouse closed but then a friend of mine who is wine director at a restaurant was selling their inventory at cost. It was crazy...Krug for $100/bottle, etc. and then on the way out the door they just full on gave me a bottle of Sine qua...
There was a restaurant selling their wine at cost...

I know of one restaurant in San Francisco was selling their wine at cost. But they announced it and within a few hours the city was going to shut down at midnight. I decided against rushing into the city and trying to pick some bottles up.
Thank you for sharing this information! Fabulous post!

I find that prices have risen way too much. Opus One used to be sub $200 a bottle. Now, it's around double that. A typical California Napa Cab that has seen 70% new French Oak barrels used to cost $30 a bottle several years ago, now they're $60-75. This r...

When friends come to town, even those that have been to Napa Valley many times, I will give them the 'locals' tour. By that I mean the out-of-the-way places we would go as kids, or where my father and grandfather would take us. They are decidedly not fanc...

I've been trying to do more things as the locals do them. I'm in the SF Bay Area, so only about an hour's drive away. I really enjoy the sandwiches at the Genova Delicatessen on Trancas ST in Napa. We will have to find a date to rendezvous sometime when t...

Even Montalena and Stags Leap are too expensive.
By: patrick_y : April 4th, 2020-20:55
Cask 23 at Stags Leap is way too much money these days. Do I enjoy my $100 dinner at a nice restaurant, say Gary Danko near Ghiradellhi Square, more than a $200 bottle of wine? I sure do! I’d say I’m getting much more satisfaction per dollar on the food! ...
You're correct.
By: halkcb : April 5th, 2020-04:34
I haven't bought any Cask 23 at today's prices, but i reckon the Montelena is still fairly just about reasonable by comparison to a lot of cali cabernets, especially the boutique varieties. I don't see a reversion of prices to that of the eighties-early nin...

Agreed. Most of the time I just pay the corkage.
By: patrick_y : April 5th, 2020-13:16
The markups are indeed criminal. I simply don’t see the value. Also, the sommelier never brings out the cart to perform the table side bottle service. I’m not sure they have a sommelier wine cart. I’ve noticed the flambé dessert cart and the cheese cart, ...
