Very sad news. On the bright side, his grand-daughter Emily is continuing the tradition and recently opened Caractere in Notting Hill London - highly recommended!
For the little story - i remember attending one of Emily's birthdays as a child. We went to the same school. I didn't know who her father was (Michel Roux Jr and owner of Gavroche) but thought that the cake his team has baked was particularly good!

but I do know the man is a legend and was the bastion of fine cooking in England before the days of the Ramsays and the Blumenthals.. I am in awe of how the Roux family has succeeded in consistently maintaining the high standards of fine cooking. RIP Mich...
