I agree with you on price pain thresholds with respect to  Burgundy. Although I am knew to Burgundy I have been following prices for several years and am kicking myself for not starting the journey sooner. My passion has been in Bordeaux from a very young age.

I mention back vintages only because of the difficulties with yield the past couple harvests and back vintages allocations of Ponsot and Comte de Georges Musigny and Bonnes Mares I’ve received recently. I wonder if this will be a trend for a year or two just to keep the buzz going amongst connoisseurs?

Have a great weekend!

I recently received a 2010-2015 vertical of Ponsot CDLR. To get a taste and feel for the wine I had the 2011 tonight and decided to cellar the rest. Did the Burgundy wine hack and double decanted and rebottled and after a few hours open it was wonderfully...

Great review - and one question

Great review of what seems like a great wine - trust you will have a great time going through the vertical. Thanks also for the picture, made me think of dinner while having breakfast 😀 😅 Short question regarding the “burgundy hack”: Do you pour the wine ...

Hi Jerome you are exactly right.

Fully decanted Burgundy is supposedly a faux pas so I decant, pour back into the bottle, pour in a second decanter and pour back into the bottle. Now if the wine is older and has sediment I would let the bottle stand for 24 hours, not decant and pour slow...

I rode my bike to the wine store. Put the bag in my basket up front. Then realized if I fall, omg, there goes $200. So I sat and drank the whole bottle. Thank god I did, I fell 6 times on the way home. Lol 😆.

Nice one! Ponsot is reputedly one of the best CdlR wines.

I have never tried the Ponsot, but have had many other CdlRs...Dujac, Rousseau. I will have to get my hands on a Ponsot at some point. How did the wasabi horseradish sauce pair? I tend avoid too much spice with Burgundies as I think it messes up my palate...

Hi John, I actually had the appetizer before the wine.

The salmon and shrimp paired well with the CDLR which had some subtle spice as well. The woodnotes and spice took no left or right turns. The wine was so beautifully balanced. The wine lasted hours after dinner as I savoured it over a few hours. I’m very ...

Cheers!

This is what makes Burgundy so great...beautiful balance that can be enjoyed with so many foods. In my experience, few Burgundy producers release back vintages since production is so low to begin with. Leroy is one notable exception. The better wines are ...
