high surf. Huge waves had destroyed much of its railings. My roommate and I walked out of a nearby bar at 2am and stared at it, one of us said "when was the last time you were out
on the pier"? With no response required and a gleam in our eyes we headed for it's entrance point where we climbed around its locked gate and headed out to the end. There was
huge surf occasionally crashing over it and it was very cold. We made it to the end where we then engaged in additional "doobie-ous" activities. Soon thereafter we started to head
back but didn't get far before a search light clicked on at a lifeguard tower and police and lifeguard trucks arrived at it's base. Uh-Oh! As they came out on the pier we slithered back
in the shadows of what remained of its railings, somehow making it past them! But as we got close to the (now unlocked) gate we stood up and sprinted like we'd never sprinted
before. As a policeman shouted "Hey, Stop"! we flew by and took a serpentine route through streets and alleys while noticing how many were looking for us. So once on a main
street we slowed to a walk and turned around, headed towards the lion's mouth. At an intersection a couple of blocks from the base of the pier we were surrounded by police
cars screeching to a halt around us and were thrown in to the back seat of one. While trying to surpress our need to hyperventilate from all the sprinting we said we had just been
on a walk. The cop driving the car said he'd need to take us to another officer who saw the malcontents fleeing the scene. This guy looked into the car at us but in the dark of night
and with us being a blur he wasn't sure we were them. The officer offered to give us a ride home but we said we'd just walk. On our way we hummed and whistled the theme song
to the TV show Mission Impossible ("if any of your I.M. force are captured or killed we will disavow any knowledge of the mission"). When we got home out came the near full
bottle of Mean Green! When we woke up most of it was gone. Darn good thing neither of us had to work that day! Probably also a good thing we've matured a bit since then!
To this day it's my favorite celebratory concoction.
