World’s most expensive spring bars aka how to alienate your customer

 By: Euroasianstar : October 29th, 2019-12:30
So one of the lug pins failed on my FPJ. Pin retracted and somehow spring doesn’t give enough pressure anymore. I’d rather not risk my watch landing on concrete somewhere. Anyway, not a big deal, I say to myself. I go over to the UK authorized dealer to a...

What about a generic pin?

once you've gone quick-release, it's hard to go back.

Totally agree

Unfortunate to see such petty customer service

 By: colton_d : October 29th, 2019-12:41
I am sorry to hear of this poor response from the dealer, however such can be the case when speaking to an AD as opposed to a boutique which I suspect would have different viewpoints on client treatment. Something so seemingly small has now created a bad ...

boutiques may have the same response

 By: avseg : October 29th, 2019-14:22
First off, note there is a separate FPJ board on this forum. Second, unfortunately, FPJ boutiques may have the same response worldwide as your AD. In the USA, the FPJ boutiques will not supply the OEM spring bars directly to end consumers; even in the cas...

I agree with you that boutiques may have the same attitude...

... 2 years ago, while in Geneva I paid a visit to the FPJ flagship to see if there were available one or more strap with summer colors (eg turquoise, yellow,...) for my Centigraph They haven’t, but they showed me what I could order (for the tiny amount o...

shocking

 By: avseg : October 31st, 2019-16:37
Three strap per color minimum is just stupid. I wonder if the boutique in Geneva uses Multicuirs for their customs and if it is a Multicuirs requirement. It seems silly for a boutique as a middle man to impose such a requirement, since they can simply cha...

Disclaimer, I don’t own any FPJ watches

I assumed that the boutiques will show a better service, I am shocked about the answers posted here.

To be fair, the service from FPJ is generally exemplary and I haven't had a single problem with any of their watches. My boutique has even gone out of its way to save me several thousand dollars at times (so I completely disagree that the boutiques are mo...

Is it possible to install a new quick-release pin in a strap without removing and replacing the stitching?

 By: mkvc : October 29th, 2019-15:29
I suspect not. It may be more or less impossible to replace the spring bar without ruining the strap. The issue probably does not arise often, as spring bar usually outlasts the strap.

no, it must be restitched

 By: avseg : October 31st, 2019-16:31
The strap needs to be restitched to replace the spring bar, so it would require a strapmaker in any case. You are correct that in some (or perhaps even all) cases, it may not be possible to restitch since there is likely glue involved.

most disappointing experience...

 By: keks : October 29th, 2019-15:38
replacement parts like this should be readily available for purchase in my opinion... However there is the option of getting generic quick release spring bars and curving them slightly, not too difficult I would think and perhaps worth a try if you are no...

Agree re customer service

 By: Chromatic Fugue : October 29th, 2019-19:17
Of all the watch brands I’ve owned, I’ve had mechanical trouble with only two: AP and FPJ, and in each case, more than once with the same watch. The AP customer service response was exemplary. The FPJ boutique (NYC) seemed more intent on pumping up the af...

I've only ever had good experiences!

 By: IndieFan : October 29th, 2019-20:18
I've dealt with both FPJ ADs and boutiques directly and have only ever had good experiences. Every watch they sell has a warranty, so if there are any issues you're covered. Better yet, you get a much more personal response with FPJ compared to most other...

Perhaps luck of the draw

 By: Chromatic Fugue : October 29th, 2019-20:49
But glad to hear someone’s experiences have been better than mine! As I said, I love the brand, but these are not particularly robust watches, so consistently favorable customer service is a must.

I can only say that so far my experiences have been excellent with FPJ costumer service

 By: ChristianDK : October 29th, 2019-22:14
Even when things needed correction it was dealt with professionally and courteously.

It’s just a generic curved pin.

 By: ChristianDK : October 29th, 2019-22:08
Sorry to hear about the AD. He should have helped you, of course. If you are still in London, go do down to Jean Rousseau. I’m sure they will help and probably give it to you for free.

It is actually not generic.

 By: CL : October 30th, 2019-11:15
I have spoken to JR NYC and they told me it is different. Their curved pin will not fit Journe's watches well.

I’m not sure I agree with what they told you.

 By: ChristianDK : October 30th, 2019-12:39
I have generic curved pins and they fit very well 😀

JR London will help...

 By: avseg : October 31st, 2019-16:34
... but definitely not for free. Jean Rousseau in London also said they do not stock spring bars that will fit FPJ. They have to curve them.

I posted about spring bars a while ago

 By: hub6152 : November 1st, 2019-20:36
Jean Rousseau cannot supply these bars, only FP Journe can (not the boutiques). They’re not plain spring bars either. They are a stepped tail type similar to what Patek uses. You can get them from Esslinger with this part number. They then require bending...

I have bought several straps from Jean Rousseau

 By: ChristianDK : November 1st, 2019-22:29
Both In Paris and in London with these spring bars. No problem. I have also bought from ADM. no problem.

Actually a bit confused here

 By: Mr.Gatsby : November 1st, 2019-22:43
Example if I want a curved QR spring bar in 20mm, does that mean I have to get a longer straight QR spring bar? By bending/curving it does it become shorter ?

JR made a strap for my Journe

 By: ChristianDK : November 2nd, 2019-08:42
Instead of making it curved they had made it straight. They claimed that they could just curve it. They did, but once mounted there was a gap of at least a mm. I would guess a pin would be the same. However it would would be trial and error to see what wo...

No, you don’t need a longer springbar.

 By: hub6152 : November 3rd, 2019-01:58
The difference when bent is very minimal.
