A visit to the F.P. Journe Boutique in Paris (WARNING: MANY PICTURES INSIDE)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2019-16:53
On 63 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, you find one of my favorite watch stores. The F.P. Journe Boutique. I have been coming here for more than ten years and whenever I am in Paris,a visit is always on my list. Why a favorite? - Because of the staff there. ...

Thank you Christian for taking us with you!

The new slimmer bezel on the 40mm case is something I was unaware of, and possibly a game changer for some collectors. Personally, I always found the visual jump from 38 to 40 to be too much for me and much of that was the bezel I think. It's also interes...

Thank you, Jay, my friend :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2019-22:48
I was also really happy to see this slimmer bezel. I think we will see it in more pieces as the collection gradually updates. About the 38 mm I think it depends on the model and what cases are still available. I am strong in my faith, that one day we will...

An old thread, but I have been revisiting the question of differing bezel thicknesses.

 By: Jay (Eire) : February 13th, 2024-18:48
I went to the Boutique yesterday in fact to see several cases / watches side by side. The CS unfortunately for my taste remains with the thicker (or fat) bezel and as much as I’m drawn to a particular CS I’m struggling with how the bezel looks and how it ...

Thanks for bringing up this old post. It’s interesting to re-read what I wrote 5 years ago…watch collecting was really something else back then

 By: ChristianDK : February 13th, 2024-20:17
Much more how it should be, in my opinion. You had the chance to see the watches, time to think about what you wanted and words like allocation where never used. Sorry for sounding very old but I miss those times. I understand what you’re saying Jay. The ...

Different times, and not that long ago.

I’m conflicted on the fact that I have come back to this same CS (Nacre dial) again and again for several years. And yes, originally it had been in 38mm but that has been off the table for a while now and yet I’ve still come back it again and again. I thi...

It was is my pleasure, my friend.

Wow, what a spectacular display of superb timepieces. For me, the beadblasted Pt Linesport takes first prize followed closely by the Ti Rattrapante. Super photos. Thanks for posting. M4

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words. I am so happy if you enjoyed it :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2019-05:26
Yes, that Pt Octa blew my mind! the effect on the surface is soo beautiful. The way it catches the light is really special. Unlike anything I have seen before. Now the Rattrapante - that keeps me awake at night Thank you so much for chiming in. It means a...

A great read. Thanks for taking the time to record your impressions and document them with many terrific photos. Especially since I have perfected the skills of getting lost/not finding what I’m looking for in Paris. Didn’t get there. But this post takes ...

My only "complaint" is that after introducing the staff persons who helped you, you had no photos of them ... I imagine all lined up in professional attire and smiling, with white gloves... Cheers, Cazalea

Spot on, Mike :-) ....

 By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2019-12:36
I realized while I was editing....Before going there, I had planned on taking a picture of these kind people, but with all the talking and watches going in and out, costumers coming and going, I somehow forgot to do it. Im planning on making up for it dur...

 By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2019-23:33
There are so many great pieces in the collection, that didn’t get a mention in this post. Thank you for your kind words

Oh yes, she certainly is.

 By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2019-23:46
Sadly, Maurine left 😢 She wanted to try to do something for herself.

Yes, she is. Exactly as you say, lots of knowledge and super nice. And always with a big smile 😊

 By: ChristianDK : April 30th, 2019-00:02
But seriously, that applies to each of them at the boutique. It is a small but super strong team.

Thanks for the great write-up, very informative! Do you think all 40mm watches will now have the smaller bezel?

Very good question

 By: ChristianDK : April 30th, 2019-06:09
Im only guessing here!!! New model - i think so. I dont know if they will update all of the existing models. Those with many functions /crammed dials will benefit more. Larger apertures ect. The UTC could be an example that would be improved. I find it di...

Thank you Christian....

I throughly enjoyed reading your report. Having recently re-introduced myself to the brand, by adding a 40mm R/G CS, I am throughly enjoying wearing it. I would love to get the Octa Automatique Lune, as that would be perfect.

The CS is very dear to me. One of my all time favorite watches and probably the watch I wear the most.

 By: ChristianDK : April 30th, 2019-14:15
I agree with the Octa lune. There has been made some exquisite iterations. That watch has soul, in my view.

Fantastic post

and pictures! I’m really intrigued by the new Octa sport in platinum. Haven’t seen it in person yet. Thank you for taking the time to write this up and sharing your experience. Best

My pleasure 😄

 By: ChristianDK : April 30th, 2019-21:52
Yes, that piece (unexpectedly) has caught my attention as well. Even after trying it, it keeps growing on me. I think this particular piece works extremely well in platinum compared with the Ti. It is very heavy though. There is a LOT of platinum in that ...

Superb article! Nice to learn more bits of FPJ history. It's like a puzzle as you learn something new every time.

 By: cmmnsens : May 1st, 2019-14:14
I'm with you on several points you made regarding the platinum LS piece and the new 40mm Octa with thinner bezels. I saw the new Octa in Miami back in March and really liked the aesthetic - including the blue text instead of black. Also the case back was ...

Thank you, for your kind words :-)

 By: ChristianDK : May 1st, 2019-21:43
Yes - the blue text. I forgot that. That looks great. There is an refinement and aesthetic attention to detail in the FPJ universe that only find in a few other brands. There is a lot more to finish than anglage and and black polish. Thank you for chiming...
