the timekeeping accuracy is most "unstable" at the extremes of the power reserve. Since the remontoire's purpose is to make sure constant release of power particularly at these extremes, is it not ironic that the remontoire stops functioning when the PR becomes low? Appreciate your input anyway Mahesh 🙏

A CB and a remontoir question...

A few weeks back I watched an IG live with one unanswered question raised that stuck in my mind...: why would the FPJ remontoirs always "stop" working/disengage when the power reserve becomes low? Wouldn't that be the number 1 reason of a remontoir: ensur...

at low power it doesn't stop, it switches to 'sweep seconds'

my understanding Patrick once reaching low PR zone, Journe uses power to extend the 'reserve' rather to maintain accuracy (although it is still accurate to Chronometre standards). the moment it is rewound above the threshold PR, the remontoire kicks-in & ...

The purpose is not necessarily to manage power at the extremes, it’s to manage it over a specific period which may or may not include the extremes.

I don’t know for Journe. But for others I believe that other measures are taken in addition to the remontoir. For example, they may not even use all the barrel.

Absolutely, I had the same question

Hope to be enlightened by forum members, or even FPJ himself

Your reasoning makes sense.

it has made me curious as well. I know I like mine. ...

Remontoirs require energy to drive them, after a certain point, there wouldn't be enough to run the watch and the remontoir together..

If the watch's total runtime were artificially limited to the limit of the remontoir, then the power reserve would be quite short. Cf the 28 hour range of the dual remontoirs in the new resonance, compared to the total of around 40hrs. Essentially, the ti...

I have to put some reading time into the matter and the difference remontoire types. Specifically the power consumption of different remontoire types. Also, I believe FPJ is the only one that has the remontoire 'disengage'? Eg. the Grönefeld 8s runs throu...
