To my understanding,
the timekeeping accuracy is most "unstable" at the extremes of the power reserve. Since the remontoire's purpose is to make sure constant release of power particularly at these extremes, is it not ironic that the remontoire stops functioning when the PR becomes low? The purpose is not necessarily to manage power at the extremes, it’s to manage it over a specific period which may or may not include the extremes.
I don’t know for Journe. But for others I believe that other measures are taken in addition to the remontoir. For example, they may not even use all the barrel.

Remontoirs require energy to drive them, after a certain point, there wouldn't be enough to run the watch and the remontoir together..
