Will a 5130 patina?
Hello all,
Im a rookie when it comes to patek and just started what i do think will be an interesting journey.
I just purchased a 5130J from 2014. Wanted to hear your thoughts on its potential aging. Will the dial patina in any way over time? Or will it continue to look unchanged over time. Curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance

I suppose only time will tell. Most aging in vintage watches have been due to radiation i think.
+1, avoid humidity
The dial and hands don't have lume, so that's not going to patina in this example.

I too like the 5130j. Guess in time it will develop. Yours is still not vintage in category. After ten years you can consider it vintage. My opinion. 😊 Cheers. 🍻, on a lovely 5130j. Geross.
I think patina appears on older type of paints or luminous materials(like tricium)
or kind of manufacturing defects like the Marone 16520,those are fine and desirable however rust spots are not something i really wish on my timepieces.I really doubt that modern paints will age due to UV rays as their former counterparts.

If modern watches are correctly stored (away from bright light and moisture) there will be no patina. The patina you see on many vintage watches is the result of the technical limitations of watch making in these days:glass,seals,dial materials...and bad ...

I seriously doubt your 5130, if subject to a normal use, will develop any patina for the foreseeable future (i.e., for at least a few generations ;-). Enjoy thoroughly, and I do hope this is just the beginning of your experience with this special brand! H...
