Roger Smith - Series 2 Custom Dial
I just want to share my support of one of the great independent watchmakers. It was a pleasure working with Roger on this creation that I picked up from the Isle of Man earlier this year....
Did you request purple hands and appliqués?
I requested Bluing of the hands and appliqués. However, Roger has a unique process to Bluing and I agree that the color appears purple.
The images of his Great Britain watch show the hands and appliques as purple, with the merest tinges of blue, but an image on his site of a Series Two in WG or Pt, shows the hands as perfectly blued.
Personally, and I’m trying not to rain on your parade, but I wouldn’t be happy with that purple appearance – he’s not taken them to the necessary temperature to turn the lovely shade of blue we all know and enjoy. I’m glad you opted for the appliques and ...
Don't be gross
RWS has a different technique and the color is different, it doesn't make it wrong. It looks awesome, open your mind.
From my experience in watchmaking school heat-treating screws...
the more purple and "darker" the blue, the more desirable. Hard to explain, but there is a sweet-spot that is between the two colors.

The purple hue of the hands are perfect against that beautiful dial, and I especially like the long counterweight of the seconds hand.
The work on the dial is just stunning. I suppose you will always remember your close relationship and the evolution of the work around your timepiece with this great watchmaker

Congratulation for your superb acquisition. A great dial with traditional matching hands and applied digits. I love that plum-coloured patina. For those not "in the know", plum colouring is über cool, and even more difficult to achieve than flamed blue......

Beauty
much nicer dial without the band. Think the plum hands go really nicely with rose gold. Think it's odd that they don't match thigh!! Fantastic watch but that could irritate me...you have other pictures as its a beauty
