uses 9 batteries to operate the set---my mistake was not purchasing the power adaptor for the unit and solar power was then unavailable. thus,i still have to use the batteries and the power adaptor is no longer on sale. the rabbit ears were used for fm re... 

Now I have radio and scanner apps that can tune into anything around the world so I really don't use it that much. The smaller eton radios that I have come in handy as they have a flashlight built in. 9 batteries? That's a lot! Hope they can use rechargea...
